    Hi,
These are from a minor match in south Tipp. Shot on a Canon 450D and Tamron 70-300 I bought last week. C&C appreciated. :)bfc55b89fea24f72806c6b7cb27c41c3

    #3 for me....
I quite like them...you have an eye for the money shots.
Pity you didn't get the player's feet in the last, very unusual angle.
Only slight problem I can see is that they're not quite as sharp as some of the resident Sports guys who post here but maybe thats down to the lens?
Overall as a 1st Sports C&C they're very good, I'd be more than happy with them if they were mine.

    1) there's just an arm.. distracting tbh. Should have left the other player in (if you cropped it)

    2) A little dark and cluttered I think.. there's action in it though

    3) good, except I've no idea whats going on looks like they're going the other way from the ball!.. ball is a bit far from them but good exposure/etc :)

    4) Again with the 1 arm.. I think a tight crop would work well here.. could do with a small brightness boost too imo

    5) Nothing of interest..feet cut off (badly)...

#1 - Good expression, nice detail, maybe a bit too shallow DOF (I'm guessing f/2.8). I can see why you have the other arm/hurley in the image, but it can be somewhat distracting.

#2 - Looks just slightly blurred or else again very shallow DOF. I know, it's not easy, but ideally you would want the front and back player to be in focus here. Nice action though.

#3 - Good action, the ball is in there, but I'm not sure the image works. Good DOF though and nice colour/detail.

#4 - Again, somewhat distracting arm coming in to the frame. Very good DOF and focus.

#5 - I can understand what you're trying to do. Just a shame the feet are cut off. Also a shame the ball isn't visible, but I assume it's in his hand. Nice angle on the shot, with the goals in the background and blurred.

    Some very nice images there.

    Just my view.

I get what you're saying with the arm thing alright, couldn't decide if I should crop them or not. I suppose I felt they might just be "standard" sports shots if I did, which I'm not mad about.

As for the last one, just something I liked about it. The way the light is hitting the player or something. Pity I didn't get the feet in, I didn't crop them out or anything!

    Thanks :)

You can just see the ball in his hand in the fifth one, pity it wasn't in the air. I'd almost crop it just below his shorts. You won't lose anything.

    4 & 5 for me.

Just in terms of looking for C&C, the images are very large K/B wise. There are taking a long time to download every time I open the page.

Thanks Paul, the sports photography tips on your site were very helpful, although I may have to go back and re-read them :D

Apologies for the photo sizes, they are fairly big alright. I'm sure i'll be in trouble with a moderator any minute now:D

I see what you mean challengemaster, but as I say, I left the arm in intentionally. It's probably not suitable to be published in a newspaper that way or whatever, but I think it makes for a more interesting photo. But that's just me ;)

Daycent, keep on practicing. A fellow novice here. Been taking photos for the last 6 months of my local team. Even the difference of knowing when to click comes. At first i was trigger happy on sports mode like a machine gun. Keep at it.

Hurling is one of the most difficult to capture imho. Try and get a few other including some football matches in too. Good effort for first attempt.

Also picassa is a good free program that gives good cropping, saturation and sharpness. I have moved on to lightroom but i have to say picassa has stood me well.

Yeah, I actually used Picassa for these ones. It's nice and quick for the basic adjustments. I've been using Gimp for a while too, but I keep coming back to Picassa for the ease of use.

I wouldnt remove the other player, the other player shows that time is of the essence..
You have very good timing in your shots... I love the fact that the ball is in all of them except for one.

    Well done...

Actually, if you look close enough, the ball is in every single photo posted.

Arm + stick != other player.

Ok then, the Sliothar is in every photo. You just need to look for it.

The teams were Carrick Swans and Newcastle/Father Sheehys (it's complicated:confused:). Carrick Swans won if you must know.... by a good bit I think... no one seemed too bothered!!
