French based Armenian Arsen Matirosian . It takes place on the 5th of September at Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre in Nottingham .

Matirosian's record looks very weak and I'm sure he'll be every bit as bad as his record suggests as they tried to get Sean Hughes as the original opponent(that's not speculation, the BBBofC said it) http://www.bbbofc.com/notices.php, the top notice about the European Championship mentions it .

This means that Munroe's mandatory defence against Kiko Martinez will be put back till as long as possible and hence it will be longer till the next mandatory is forced .

To be honest this was to be expected, it is the equivalent of when Dunne fought Jailouev or when Hunter fought Jailouev or Guartos . Munroe will look great dismantling this guy, he'll earn some nice money and he'll move up some of the World rankings but the real tests are still to come for Munroe . I'd favour him over Martinez again but it's a dangerous fight for him and so will the next mandatory of Dunne/Maludrottu . His voluntaries will probably get tougher too as he'll most likely take on new British champion Matthew Marsh(who he should beat but it's not an easy defence) and of course Paulie Hyland is emerging aswell .

I reckon Munroe stops himwithin 8, in a nice little showpiece to help promote interest in Munroe because as you may have noticed this fight is taking place in a Leisure Centre just like his last two fights .

Btw Nigel Wright defends his English Light-Welterweight title on the undercard aswell as John Fewkes and Martin Gethin fighting in an eliminator for the British Lightweight title held by John Murray . The Fewkes-Gethin bout is also for the English title and slightly worringly Sean Hughes features on the undercard . It seems they may not have given up the idea of him being a Munroe opponent at some point .

    Neither have I.

He's never been on the undercard of any major fights over there so I really doubt Canal+ have ever shown him and they're the only ones bothered with boxing in France .

The only people that will have seen this guy is boxing fans in Lyon .
The one advantage he may have over Munroe is tapes of him may not exist, but you can tell by his results over the opposition he's faced that he isn't up to much .

Okay, so lets take the logical conclusion, he's Armenian, so he is tough to begin with and will come in in good shape and condition, but Munroe is too skilled and beats him.

    What then? Bernard?

Could be one of these dress rehearsal type fights for Munroe, safe opponent in the run up to a bigger fight.

I see Michael Hunter is back.:cool: Welcome addition to the mix- if he can make 122.

Judging by the record our Armenian friend will be outclassed to the point of being stopped for sure, even if he has a good chin and is tough .

Next after that has to be Martinez as he is mandatory and Haye won't have time for another voluntary .

After that(should he be successful) I think he'll go after Matthew Marsh(British Champion) and then Sean Hughes, before having to take another mandatory in either Simeone Maludrottu(currently ranked #1) or Bernard Dunne(currently ranked #2)

I'm not surprised that Maludrottu has been ranked ahead of Dunne by the EBU after coming up from Bantamweight . He's not as good a fighter but the Damaen Kelly fight shows he may have himself some connections .
Dunne should go after Hunter to try and force the EBU's hand and make him the next mandatory, otherwise they'll do all they can to give it to the Italian .

Hunter is also still ranked #11 by the WBO(one place ahead of Dunne) so if they are serious about pursuing a World title then a Hunter fight is definitely a good idea . Fight a guy like Escalante(#7) or Sergio Medina(#4) after that and he would have a very realistic chance of getting a title shot . Not that I'd give him much hope of beating Juan Manuel Lopez .

It is often talked about on here the difference between European and World level, particularly at Super-Bantamweight where Bernard operates . Well here's the Molitor-Hunter fight again to give an example

Now what is evident there is that Molitor is clearly the classier fighter and the more skilled fighter . But it's not the difference in the fight, the difference in the fight was surprisingly(as Molitor isn't a big puncher) power and Hunter couldn't handle it . Although with that said Pickering(who's an even lighter hitter than Molitor) had floored and hurt Hunter twice in their fight, so it's clear Hunter's chin was a bit iffy .

I think it's clear than if Peters is to ever put Dunne in the ring against one of the World Champions it has to be Molitor . It was shown in the 3k battery fight that Molitor's chin isn't exactly granite either and he's the only one Dunne would stand a small chance against .

Current rankings for the European Super Bantamweights on the World scene :
Rendall Munroe: WBC 17th, WBA 9th, IBF 8th,
    Kiko Martinez: 11th IBF
    Bernard Dunne:WBC 27th, WBO 12th
    Simeone Maludrottu: WBC 11th, 14th IBF(Bantamweight),
    Michael Hunter: WBO 11th
    Matthew Marsh: WBC 29th
    Damir Bulatov: WBC 40th
    Arsen Matirosian: WBA 11th

I think we may have found another reason for Matirosian's selection as an opponent . An extremely generous WBA ranking which will surely up Munroe a few places .

Anyway the only reason I've started looking at how things look on the World scene for Dunne is I don't fancy him to be a voluntary defense and Maludrottu looks like he'll be in for the mandatory after Martinez .

    How the EBU has things:
    Champion: Munroe
    Mandatory: Martinez

    1.Simeone Maludrottu
    2.Bernard Dunne
    3.Matthew Marsh
    4.Esham Pickering
    5.Reidar Walstad
    6.Salem Bouaita
    7.Jeremy Parodi
    8.Arsen Matirosian
    9.Fausto Bartollozi
    10.Fabrizio Trotta
    11.Sean Hughes
    12.Massimo Mora
    13.Zsolt Bedak

Damn Big Ears you have 122 DOWN!;)

I wonder if Martirosian is a relative of that highly talented Olympian kid that Freddy Roach is training.

You have to LOVE the way Maxboxings stuff ends up on youtube.!!!
