Ya know when things just randomly disappear, and ya don't think of them until ages after?

Like, whatever happened to those blackhead strips that ya stuck on your nose? They were big news for a while a few years ago.

And my God, whatever happened to Topdecks???
My Friends mam was in South Africa a while ago, and they still have them over there! She brought back a few bars, but they weren't the same!!

Do the likes of Wham bars or Stinger bars still exist? Used to love those back in the day.

    Frosties sugar coated sweets.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,442 ✭✭✭Firetrap

Instant tea. Does that still exist? I remember they brought over Derek and Mavis from Coronation Street to promote the stuff. I think the tea was like coffee granules and you just poured boiling water over the stuff. No need for tea-leaves or teabags.

You can still get those strips for your nose Biore clear pore strips cost a packet but do a great job of mens noses (I never had black heads) the ex's nose was gross though so I bought some and left them where he could'nt miss them yeuck it worked but the relationship did'nt ha ha

Does anyone remember Wham! bars? Sheesh we had an obsession with them goin back to school in 5th year, they were killer pink toffee with madsour bits in them you could'nt help but screw your face up when a sour bit hit your taste buds - not an easy thing to camouflage in front of the nuns:D

Obsession when I go to America = Cinnamon flavoured tic tac they're a brilliant crowd puller!

You can get the apple drops in Morrisseys pub in abbeyleix by the quarter. if you leave them overnight, they still stick together and stick to the brown bag, and ..well ..yum.

oh, and I love that everybody knows the boire pore blackhead strips, but no one has had black heads. :D:D ah, I have this 'friend' that used them..

Regal Sour apple drops. In a Roll individually wrapped in wax paper.
Cant be got anyplace anymore. They used to have fruit and cherry ones too.
Used to get them when I was around 7-8 years old. Nothing yet has compared to them.
(along with the standard round apple drops 2 for a half penny)

Jolly Ranchers I was addicted to, Have not seem them in years or since the 90's

A particular type of odd shaped foam sweet called the penny peach.
At the age of 13 I found a fiver on the street and bought 500 of them!
Girl at shop got sick of counting out the sweets and just tipped a load of them into
    a bag.

Speaking of which...when your a kid getting a selection of penny sweets I must
of drove the shop keepers nuts!!! 10 of these, 5 of those, 50 of them, 25 of that.....

Cherry Coke and supercans are both gone from Ireland for a long time - since the early 90s I reckon. I guess the plastic bottle replaced the supercan as the container of choice for carbonated beverages.

Never liked cherry coke much - they tried to launch it here but it never took off. You can still get it in the USA though. Also is doctor pepper still available here? They did a big launch for that a few years back too - awful stuff.

Another one is sunkist - I don't think that one is around any more either.

Those creepy eyes!!!!! A Teddy bear should not have
eyes that move and follow you around.

The Cassette tape shoved up his ass was just wrong.

There was a cartoon I think at some stage too.

oh i don't know, i can think of some artist's that people would love to shove their tape's / cd's up their ass :D:o
(there are just so many possiblities):p:o

but seriously, can you still buy one here, and if so where?

and again being serious, its a bit dangerous the tape up his ass, what if kids started copying that:eek:

    lol

Everything you mentioned in that post, apart from SuperCans, is still available here. SuperCans were, of course, replaced by the contour bottle.

Remember it used to be Green plastic instead of clear?

Cherry Coke can be had in Boots in the Jervis Centre, and I always make a point of buying it when I go that far down Henry Street.

Dr. Pepper can be got in about 50% of Newsagents around Dublin. I love the stuff, fairly similar to Cherry Coke.

And finally Sunkist is available at 5 cans for €2 in the 2Euro shop on Abbey Street, just near the Luas shop. I'm actually drinking a can of it right now.

This must be a Dublin only thing. I genuinely haven't seen cherry coke in Ireland since the 80s

Now bottles have petaloid bases so they can self stand.
Before the used to have round bottoms with a seperate base.

I remember when the ends of the plastic bottles stopped appearing.

You used to be able to get bottles with a flat bottomed plastic cap in the end of it.
As a kid we used to cut the top off a bottle, then cut strips down the length of it
and fold them into the bottom cap making a flower pot! now you cant do that anymore!

They haven't gone away you know.

They were originally called "Biorè" strips, but some other company manufactures them now.

I see them in the Chemists' every time I go in for manly supplies, like razors and um, more razors.

Anyone remember that little treaure throve called 'The Candy Shop' on North Frederick St?..

Although I can't remember buying much in it, I'd browse the window for an hour without getting bored.

I remember that was one of the places my Grandad used to take me at ten years of age back in 1981 when we went into town.

Amazing place and I was sad to see it go only a couple of years ago.

I'm not sure if the person who dealt in the memorabilia owned the shop or just a share in it. Anyone know what happened to him? He must have been going a long time.
