The Palestinians initiate conflict by targeting civilians and then the usual predictable entourage of hippys come out from their tree huts and criticise Israel for retaliating by bombing tunnels supplying Hamas with supplies??

Israel is 100% in the right here.
I'm sure those in the Israeli embassy will give a fúck that a bunch of Irish tossers have decided to congregate outside their front door.

Yes indeed, tossers being the main word.

I don't think that Israel are. Particularly if they could have avoided innocent casualties during the operation - which wouldn't surprise me in the least, considering their past record. However, and correct me if I'm wrong here, Hamas fired hundreds of rockets into Israel before Israel did anything. Then Israel said 'enough is enough' and decided to attack. So, this being the case, is it not fair to assume that Hamas caused this whole mess? I'm almost certainly over-simplifying but blaming Israel because the response wasn't 'proportionate' is absolutely ferking ridiculous.

In case people are wondering why rockets have been fired into Israel it's because Israel has put a blaockade on the Gaza Strip depriving innocent civilians of food and oil. People have been resorting to scavanging in rubbish dumps for food. All this started came about when Hamas won an election and Israel didn't like it. Democracy how are ya?

One only has to look at the how the Palestinians have been ethnically cleansed out of their homeland since 1946 to make way for European and African jews to see how horrid their situation is. Why should they suffer cos the jews suffered at the hands of the Germans?

Freaks covers all the ones you've left out.
Now if ever there was a perfect place for the Israelis to drop a missile..............:D

boyd barrett and his megaphone, few maverick green party fools and the usual rag bag of angry oaps. If they are so concerned about showing solidarity why dont these "brave concerned souls" get a flight to the mid east and pick up a placard and show solidarity there instead of safe Old conell st????

Its well known that Hamas deliberately set up their explosive-building hideouts near schools and hospitals so when Israel do target these sites, civilians will inevitably get hurt. This shows Hamas' blatant disregard for their own people. They probably wish for child casualties just so the western media can lap it up and splash a photo across the front page, finger wagging at the bad Isrealis - all the while the Palestinians are laughing at you infidels who support their terrorist campaign

Im a bit confused and yes I know very little about this. So .... Hamas start firing hundreds of rockets into Israeli territory with 5% killing people and 95%damaging innocent fields. Israel retaliates by attacking tunnels which are used for importing arms and supporting. So we protest at the Israeli embassy?
Did you miss the part where over 300 Palestinians were killed by the Israelis?

Can you provide any evidence for this whatsoever? How do you know that the likes of Hamas or Hezbollah aren't just antagonising the Israelis unprovoked?

I've been to Palestine and Israel numerous times and i have friends in Palestine who i keep in contact with. They're mostly in Ramallah and Jenin. I have seen first hand what daily life is like for Palestinians. Water and electricity only for a few hours a day. Confusion as to when there is and isn't a curfew in effect. Being denied access to hospital treatment at checkpoints. EU Aid ships being sent back, food trucks being stopped, houses knocked down. Random beatings. Me and 2 friends once seen a kid being shot in the head for being out after curfew. It's all the daily things like the above that turn people into martyrs or drive them towards the likes of the Hamas. Some days they are a little lax on the above, then on other days it is worse. It just depends on the humor of the IDF soldiers. That is the daily antagonistic catalyst that causes missiles to be fired. I'm not saying that is always 100% the reason. But usually it is. The same thing happen here with the Brits.

I've never really understood this proportionate response argument. If I'm in a nightclub and I walk over to a guy twice my size and start poking him in the eyes and the turns around and hospitalises me... you know what? I asked for and deserve it!

you did ask for it but he'll not get away with hospitalising you
the law will have little or no sympathy for him once he's shoved yopu away

Thats nice and all, but remember that if they had the arms, 95% of Palistinians believe that all non-Muslims should be anilhated as infidels, and that western countries would be the first port of call for said arms.

You can support them all you like, but most of them believe we deserve death.

Well i've been to Palestine (and Israel) on 6 different occasions. Two of the trips being for a few months. And the only trouble and bigotry i ever experienced was at the hand of the Israelis. I was instantly a terrorist because i was Irish and was there to visit Palestinians and i was treated as unwelcome when they found out i wasn't Jewish. Not all Israelis are like that and are far from it. But they only trouble i had was from them. Once i respected the Muslim religion i never had any problems and were one of the most welcoming and friendly people i have come across. So don't always believe what you read.

Israel have called in reserves for a ground assault. Anyone think other Arab states might get involved if that happens?

I just hope the Israelis don't use their nukes and start ww3.
It's a lovely country, I've been there months on end some years ago. However it was hard discussing politics with them, a lot are racist bigot bastards tbh.

I'm still interested in seeing a little proof of whether Hamas were provoked into firing 450 rockets into Israel. I was under the impression that they were doing it after Israeli troops had actually pulled out of The Strip, just to add insult to injury.

How can that be a fair comparison? If you add that you walked over to a guy twice your size and hit him because he had kicked you out of your house, bombed half of your family, controls your food, water and electricity supplies and imposes curfews on your daily life. Well then that might be a bit more accurate.

Israel did initially reduce operations in Gaza. But then in November Israel launched an operation to destroy tunnels in which 2 civilians were killed. There was a bit of rioting and the general protests which included rock throwing. 3 more Palestinians were killed in this. One of the a 8 year old kid. Hamas responded by firing rockets at an Israeli checkpoint. Israel responded with more incursions and then tightened the blockade. The Egyptian backed truce expired and there was more protests. Later that day Palestine launched rockets into Israel. Then Israel responded with what we all know what happened on Saturday.

The above is the story that was told to me by a friend in Palestine and was also backed by an Israeli friend i have. Granted my Israeli friend hates what Israel does to Palestine so call it unbalanced if you want.

The sense of doing something. Oppression is a terrible thing. It causes you to do terrible and often disparate things.

Sure what would us Paddies know about that word, oppression???

And yet people argue that this is merely Israel defending itself...

Don't think you can generalize that with us Paddies cause a lot of Irish don't know what oppression is.

I keep saying this, but why do people think the Israeli population allow their ogvernment to do the things they do?

Why do people think the Palestinians vote basically a militia into government.

It's because they're all scared, and both sides feel victimised, and feel like their backs are against the wall.

You can spend all the time you like in Palestine and you'll see some nasty stuff by the IDF.

If you spend time with enough Israelis who are scared to get onto a bus or to go to a mall, or have had relatives blown up, then you'll get another side to all of this.

But at the end of the day it's all about fear. It's also about anger. When one side stops the violence for long enough for the other side to stop being afraid, then the conflict will stop.

That's what the guys who go on these protests don't realise.

They're clueless about human nature. All they care about is their image :(

    Israelis vitims?

They steal other people's land and get pissed of when people fight back in whatever way they can. Boo ****ing hoo.

Not fair. Israeli civilians have also had horrors inflicted on them by Palestinian fanatics. It's the Israeli government and militia I've a problem with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,085 ✭✭✭✭Zebra3

All Israeli citizens do military service therefore all Israeli citizens are military targets. They also have voted in government after government which have stolen Palestinian land and many have gladly reaped the benefits of it.

I think this time Israel is biting off more than it can chew.

    Jaysus!!

Do you regard child soldiers who are forced into warfare as legitimate targets when they're in rehab centres too?

No, and that has nothing to do with the point I made.
