Okay, mine balances are sorted, and i am ready to buy a second car for 6k, and still have some savings. Mine misses will be driving mine old merc clk200, so if ill need something more roomy, i can allways take it for a longer trip or whatever else.

It will be second car, so it can be allmoust anything:

    1) 2seats/4seats/1seat :D
    2) Cabrio OR coupe OR Saloon ( as long as its not boring, surprise me :D)
    3) Smallest engine would be 1.8, max 3.0 ( just in 2999 bracket of tax)
    4) Fun, fun, fun.

Limits: 23years 2ncb, full Eu ( moust insurance companies see it as full irish aswell)
So far i can get qoutes for: 328,200sx,mx5,mr2 etc... So its not that hopless as it seems :D.

I have no problem to switch insurance if needed. Becouse ill be driving this car atleast untill 25, when ill be able to get a qoute on skyline r32 ( i am not a boy racer! I love this car as a legend, not as item to drive around town in circle for Nxtimes! )

    so far:

I had allready checked one MX5, 99", felt in love with it, but that one got away, becouse i was doubting, and mine current car faked ilness and pushed me away from buying a mx5. but after a visit at mechanic i sorted it, and back on track...

Checking on 530d, as long as i dont whant it to be practical, but this car seems to be a bargain of a century.

Checking on one 200sx at the moment. Will see how it will go :D

I have time, not in a rush. So what can you offer lads? Have fun, and see what can you find interesting!

p.s. sorry for spelling mistakes, english is not mine first languadge. thank you for understanding!

Saab 9-3 Viggen? 2.3 high pressure turbo, 0-60 in ~6.5 seconds:
    Viggen_m_m.jpg
Would be my choice of second car - if you wanted you'd probably get the convertible for that price too.

Since you already have a 'coup, maybe a 530D estate, 330D estate... That's what comes to mind straight away.

Saab is actually good idea, wondering now... will i find Aero for 6k mark... I will need to look in to it.

As long as it goes, i would prefer a coupe, i am still young, so baby carrier not in mine plans, yet. :D

    Cheers for that saab idea.

Emm not a fan of alfas.. sorry... :(

Btw was checking adds there and found this:

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Honda/Accord/Type-R/200926194408227/advert?channel=CARS

Only downside: FWD :(. Ill call insurance company tommorow to ask how much will cost a change. If i wount, 123.ie gives me a qoute of 1.1k eu.

    ill check some saabs aswell

You'd *deffo* get a very clean aero coup' for under budget, but keep in mind the Aero is a fast car, whereas the Viggen is a monster, and it's an incredibly rare car too.
You'd have to go the the UK for a 'Vig... Still, Aero would be seriously fun too!!

On the 530d, you'll find its too big and heavy (once you get used to the shove from it!). 3-series msport drives way better.
That said 530ds are savage good value ...

Fto sounds fun, i actually whanted it so much when i was a kid.. all that Grand Turismo 1 on PS :D. Ill check it out. cheers.

Now aero are 2.3t or 2.0t lads? and what kind of power are we talking about, but i guess its FWD aswell?

btw i called today to mine insurance ( quinn-direct) and they refused insuring Accord type-r . Even when i said i got putted deposit on it ( hihi, i am such lier), they just said: ah well then you will have to cancel insurance with us then... I allmoust snapped!

And i got a qoute on it for 1.1keu on 123.ie, its cheaper then i pay for clk200 at quinn atm!!!

Btw just whanted to ask you lads, how would i do then? if i need to go to check car in dublin, and then bring it back, but i will need to get a new policy ant ather insurance company. But i cant get it before i go... i dont know if i will like the car in first place...

BMW 530i e34 ( mine personal favorite BMW, last proper one)

I had an E34 530i (with the 3l V8 engine). Original Irish car owned by the Finnish ambassador. Proper old skool BMW that :D

Be very careful with that engine though. You could be fine, but it could also be a nightmare. Google "nikasil" and you'll get the idea...

    ROFL :D
Which BMW engines nikosil went on?

Roughly the straight 6 from the mid to late 90s and the V8 from the early to mid 90s. Nearly all cars with this issue were run on cheap dirty petrol (USA and UK). Many of these cars in Ireland today started out in the UK so that's what's the issue
That actually really pushes me off 530 now....

Well, it shouldn't really. If the car doesn't have any issues today, it is unlikely to develop them in the future

Anyway, if you like BMWs with V8 petrol engines, you might be better off with the M62 V8 (3.5l or 4.4l) in the E39 535 and 540 and the E38 735 and 740. Now those are all superb cars built to last with engines that go forever!

I cant go more then 2999, becouse 1.6keu tax will kill me, plus then mine misses will revive me and kill me again!

7series are lovely, but i am not looking for a sofa on wheels, i got clk200 ( its not near 7series, i know) and its enought for me.

And i need something to wake me up! not to sleep in :D

K, i am going to bed, this weak i am spending 7 days at work, and time after work in carzone.ie.... It makes me depresive now! :D

MX5!!!! My favorite car! I wouldn't bother going for the 1.8... the 1.6 is plenty and cheaper for tax, petrol etc.... Brilliant fun and an excellent, reliable car. Pretty cheap too. I love them. Look at www.webcars.net Their main garage has closed cos of the recession but I think the owner still imports and sells MX5's. He is an expert and a lovely guy too. I totally recommend him. Loads of tips about buying and MX5 there too. Good luck!!!!:D

that was saturday. And i called around 10:00

Btw, yes, they just shot be down! theyr answer was clear: Unfortunatly we cant insure this car on you, you will have to cancell insurance then...
So what do i say them? Do i just start pushing it, and say you have to?

    i got top 2 atm:

    Accord type-r
    Mx5

i had second thoughts on 200sx... Lovely car, but... just not mine cup of tea :D

My Bad, I was quoting Bars post.
Anyways, back on topic, Accord type R and an Mx5.
2 completely different cars, so so different.
The Accord is just a taut/kinda fast family saloon and the mx5 is a proper balanced 2 seat roadster.
What will fit your life better OP?

Too be honest, after i test drove that mk2 mx5 i just fell in love with it... Unfortunatly ( or even lucky) i lost that one...

    It has only advantages:

1)2 seats, no drunk friends/misses friends friends will ask for a lift home! :D
2)small and agile, perfect for irish rally-100km/h back roads :D
    3)Cabrio...
    4) MX5 club in ireland is really nice and active, would love to make a new friendship with lads, and that would be some extra after work activity.

1999 ukdm Integra type r, milano red and quad headlights so its different to the thousands of white jap ones here, all extras a/c, rear strut brace, almost full service history, new brake pads and tires all round.

190bhp, easy to insure, coupe, quick and great handling.

see the link in my sig!

You'd nearly get an 02 Cooper S for that money (Probably have to spend 7 ish cleared). 163 Bhp as standard, then when you've a few more Euro, put a smaller supercharger pulley in, a manifold, and a remp, and you'll end up with not far off 220 Bhp. Couldn't possibly ask for more fun, and more inpractical than that!

The only issue with them is that when it's time to do the timing belt, the engine has to be pulled out of the car IIRC, which is expensive!

nah, wouldnt touch fiat at all...

Just really really bad experience, ill be going to town for few more qoutes now, and check mx5 imported ones.

In hibernian its huge diffeence, import 1.8k non import 1.1k

And quinn-direct refused ( again) i have to be 30 years old....

Have you tried axa? I got a great quote of them. Hibernian quoted me around 1200, 3yrs named driver, 5yrs full license on a E30 318i touring, axa was less that half! Quinn were very high for me.

well i just back from town.. so for mx5 jap import 1.8:

AXA: you have to be 25++ sun to insure this car, back off!
    Local broker: 1.8keu TFT

Now i can get insured on local mx5 for 1.2k eu from hibernia, but for jap import its 1.8k eu!!!

And i found one lovely mx5 mk1 from mazda owners club... but insurance is just insane....

ill give 123.ie a phone call now, find out what will they say...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,924 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

    SORTED!

called 123.ie, a very nice fella answered, so as long as engine size is right and its on irish plates, they dont give a fudge if thats a jap import!

Finnly... becouse i had all faith lost in car insurance companies!
