    Does anybody know if it is compatible with lineux as it says XP and Vista

    You could make it compatible with linux.

    It will work on Linux but you must format it to EXT2 or 3 & not FAT32 or NTFS.

    Linux is capable of supporting both FAT32 and NTFS

    I could be wrong, but not for installing on though? Although technically it can be done, those two don't support linux file permissions fully AFAIK.

    Since it's an external I assumed the OP was not using it for the main linux install.
    I could be wrong.

    Yeah I have two laptops that i want to back files up from. One is XP and the other was vista but crashed and put linux on it to try. Happy enough with the linux but want to save pics from both as we lost a lot of the vista
