Thats my bike, it's great, I've had it for 3 months now, it's my first road bike so I do't have anything to compare it to but it's going great. I think I have put in 1500Km on it and no problems at all.

in a word..no, not for that money, low spec, average frame, decent for knocking about town on but not a good investment to start cycling on, would pick up a similar bike second hand for 200 - 300 which would be just as good.

look at getting a boardman, focus cayo, canyon for the same money.

:)I agree with littleknown, its not worth that money and is way overpriced for what you are actually getting... The other bikes littleknown has named are far superior in terms of quality he is spot on there.... For around the same price as the lappiere you will get a much better bike online................

    dont mind them
a bike is worth what YOU think. Test ride it. If you like it buy it. Specs arent the b and end all!!

just trying to save the lad some money or at least help him spend it wisely. a bike isnt worth what you think, i would appreciate if i was buying something expensive that someone gave me a pointer as to what is or is not worth buying. of course it will be good on a test ride and will last for years after that without any major problems but you could buy one for half the price with the same result.

its a nice bike but i cant believe theyre looking for that money for it.

SRAM is pretty good, imo better than equivalent Shimano. The SRAM cranks are poor though, compared to equivalent Shimano or Campagnolo. Don't let SRAM stop you buying a bike:)

My above post is regards your uneasiness regarding sram. Don't let sram put you off buying a bike, unless you don't like the shifter form or function. A test ride and comparison to shimano and/or campy will determine whether or not you like it. Technically it works without a hitch.

You seem to be in the same position I was in when I bought the same bike, back to work scheme, as far as I know halfords are not part of it, well they weren't a year ago. It is your money though, you can only do this once every 5 years. I'm going to be looking to upgrade mine in a year but at the time I wasn't sure if I would be into it . As it turns out , I love it but I do sufferr from a bit of bike envy from time to time when I see all these carbon fibre bikes. So if you are definately into it and don't want to change the bike in 2 years go for a carbon frame. If you are not sure, go for the R lite 400, it's a very good bike. You also get a free service worth about 60 Euros, I was scepital about how much service it would actually get, they do a really good job.

Why do people say "free" so freely, it's hardly free given the prices cyclesuperstore charge for bikes and parts, the service charge is built into the sale price of the bike or else you should have the option of opting for just the bike for €60 less. Nothing against the LaPierre bike as I think it looks great although on the pricey end given it's components but that's more a problem with CycleSuperStore and the margins they seem to have over other online stores. Alot of workplaces only seem to offer the CTW scheme with the CycleSuperStore so I wonder if they're using that to their advantage and not being as competitive as they could be.

my mate has the boardman bike for €800, and i got the R-Lite 300 at the same time

for me, why i prefer mine is the third gear on the front, im not sure if you`re a beginner, but if you are, the third gear will help you out TEN FOLD on a decent climb, me and my mate do a lad around the dublin mountains,. no more than 18km, and on average he`s always more than 2/5 minutes behind me, and its just because of the extra gear i have, which just mkes it that little bit easier

im not saying the Lapierre is better, but for a beginner, i think they are better suited, thats just my opinion

i was going to get the equivalent Giant when i got mine, but simnpkly hated the look of them, boring styling

on another note, the 400 is savage looking to, the Francais De Jeux colurs look great :D

as someone said to me once, the best thing you can buy, is the one you want :D

Listen guys, all i am saying here is its way overpriced full stop...Yes it looks nice but the components are pretty basic for that price...My honest opinion would be to go for the focus cayo or the canyon myself, but word of warning about canyon, their bikes are super but their customer service is woeful from my dealings with them anyway............I was going to buy a canyon as well but as i said their customer service was a total nightmare and i would not touch them with a barge pole so went for a specialized bike instead.............But yes if your getting it on the bike to work scheme at a good price its not a bad bike, their are just a lot better bikes out there for the same price thats all..........

    like this for example http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055684033
easily twice as good and cheaper a great bike at a bargain price . no comparison. but the bike to work angle makes it a tricky decision though,

p.s i bought a canyon mtb with no problems at all, bike arrived within a week, recommended, although they can be slow with emails.

Lapierre frames are well finished, strong and quite responsive. They're finished with good shimano groups and ritchey components. They are great bikes. Yes they can be overpriced buth that's more cyclesuperstore than lapierre. If you're getting it through bike to work then go for it as you will be getting a great bike at a great price. If in a couple of years you're looking for carbon then this will make a great winter bike!!
