Storm in Limerick have raised their prices too, was €9.80 for an adult last week, christ a few years ago it used to cost 6 euro for matinee showings and €7.50 for evenings, throw in a drink and some food and its getting as expensive as a night out to go to the cinema, used to be something you did before the pub now its replacing it as its so expensive, and cinema chains are wondering why people are downloading stuff these days

They had to do something this summer was dreadful when it came to attendence and its only €6 for a normal film a 3D, Opera and Classic still costs €11. I'm just worried at what price tickets will be at the end of October which by "strange coincidence" is just in time for the mid term break for schools

Cinema prices normally go up this time of the year the summer is over kids back at school people won't notice if we put prices up mantra.

I've started to grow tired of the cinema the high prices, the interuptions during films getting more frequent plus the fact I can get most films on DVD before the appear in cinemas here Advertureland, Hurt Locker, District 9 and Away We Go are just some recent examples.

Interuptions ? whereabouts are ya , im in cork usually go to late shows on a fri/sat night and usually only real cinema fans go , in 3 years only had 2 interruptions one was quickly told shut the **** up and he did the others left 20 minutes in .
To be honest i wouldnt mind paying a slight amount extra for a security presence that actually would come into movies check for problems and have the authority to remove people .

I agree with ya about getting films before they hit the cinema but i still like seeing movies on the big screen i watched a perfect copy of district 9 the other night at home and at the end i just thought i would of loved to of seen it on the big screen.

yeah 9.80 for an adult, with an extra 60c "booking fee" if you book a ticket online with your credit card.

The only reason they can charge that much locally, imo, is because the Omniplex in Limerick is crap with smaller seats, and with a much higher number of scumbags who go there, especially during the earlier showings.

It is cheaper now, or at least as cheap, to just buy a film on dvd or order the Blu ray from the UK than go to some cinemas. Even moreso when you factor in drinks and munchies.

It is a shame because I love the whole cinema experience.

That said I did give them my money yesterday to go see District 9.

The cinema in the area that I used to enjoy going to was the one in Ennis as they used to show old films from time to time as well as the new releases.

    +1 on the highlighted bit.

I only ever go to the cinema during the day now, maybe its gotten to the stage where I hate the public so much I cant stand to be in a room with more than a few of them at once, but they ruin movies. I saw Public Enemies in the biggest screen in Limerick at 2pm on a tuesday or whenever and there was me, a couple and one other guy, and there wasnt a word uttered, a phone used or a sweet unwrapped the whole time, it was ****ing glorious. daytime showings ftw

It is strange to see cinemas increasing the price of their tickets by such a large amount as cinemas don't actually earn a lot from the ticket sales, the shop is where all the money is made.

For example, during the opening week of district 9 about 80% (I think, though I might be slightly off) of the ticket price goes back to the distributor and a further 13.5% goes to the tax man. Over time the distributor percentage drops but the majority of the films business is done in the first week, two if it's a bigish film.

Of course, there's a fine balance to be struck between ensuring repeat business by having a customer friendly price and getting in the latest films at release by earning enough on the films to justify the distributors sending them to you. The distributors don't care if the cinema has a high or low volume of customers, just so long as it has a high intake of capital for them otherwise they'll just send the films somewhere where'll they'll make more money.

Yeah have done that a number of times too. Started doing it since V For Vendetta was in the cinema. I finished work early that day and caught a 4pm showing and it was great to have the screen almost to myself.

Work times often made it hard to catch those showings though.

Now that I am unemployed :( I have loads of time to catch early showings, but less income so am just as likely now to wait for something to come out on Blu Ray.

extra for a security presence that actually would come into movies check for problems and have the authority to remove people .

I completely disagree with this statement and discourage anyone else to agree with it without thinking about. No one should have to pay extra for adequate cinema security, particularly when most, if not all, cinemas have security onsite.

Student tickets were €7.10 all the time, now range from €6.75 - €9.00.
However the cheap one is only before 5pm Mon - Thur (when no students go)

Why's that then? What are students doing before 5pm - oh yeah right - sleeping :D

If they have security and they arent checking the screens then they just arent doing their job. Ticket price has nought to do with it! :)

At least the omniplex is now offering €6 tickets for everyone when booked online or on the phone...
