    Hi

What are the working hours of a typical trinity lecturer. Is it 9-5 monday - friday? How many hours are devoted to lecturing?

    Thanks

The lecturers in general keep their own hours, which in certain cases can mean its a nightmare to get a hold of them especially if you don't have an appointment or those lecturers that are email shy. If you need a certain lecturer a lot, ask them what their hours are.

Roughly the hours are 9 to 5, I've seen some in regularly at 7am and know of a few in at 8:30. Some leave early on certain days like 12:30 on a Friday.

As I said its a mess, the hours should be regularised. The way it is at the moment is a disaster for those who need help with their final year projects etc.

The hours are regularised insofar as they attend the lectures they are supposed to give. Outside that they fulfil their conditions of employment with regards publishing papers and preparing lectures. It would probably be unproductive to force certain office hours upon them.

However, the majority of them are employed as lecturers, and part of their position is to aid students. If they are a supervisor on a final year project they should be reasonably available - they should certainly be amenable to setting an appointment. You shouldn't expect to be able to speak to them that day about a certain problem (though you quite often can), but within a number of days is a reasonable expectation. If you have a problem with a lecturer with regards their availability for this kind of thing there are avenues you can pursue to complain about it.
