God of War or Battlefield Bad Company 2?

Hey everyone. First time poster, long time lurker.

I'm gonna trade in Heavy Rain this weekend, and would love to get one of the 2 recent big releases. Question I have is which one? Both games have some brilliant reviews, and some great threads about them on here. I just want something to keep me occupied for the next few weeks and would be worth playing again in future. I love MW2, but I also love platform games like Uncharted 2, so my mind is totally fried as to which game to go for.

    Suggestions?

If you want a few weeks then battlefield is the one you want. GOW3 is only about 10-12 hours i finished it in 3 days and wont play it again. Battlefield gives you the online option so stretches that out.

See I dont have my online account set up yet (damn apartment block firewalls), so would that seriously limit Battlefield?

Yes, God yes. It's about 6 hours long without online. The singleplayer isn't outstanding or anything. Get God of War, pick up battlefield when you have your internet set-up, it may have even dropped in price by then!

Christ I didnt realise it was that short on singleplayer. Ok GOW it is.

Is it the kind of game though that you'd want to have played the first 2 to fully understand it or can you just plough ahead regardless?

Hmm I dunno, I bought the collection a few weeks ago. You probably won't get as much out of it if you haven't played the other two. Story-wise it's probably not the strongest of the series, they reference a lot of stuff that happened in the previous games. You won't get lost or anything, you'll still be able to follow what's going on. There's a trilogy set coming out on the 30th of April if you can stand waiting that long. I think you'd be fine going straight into GoW 3 though, just might not find it as good or engaging if you haven't got invested in the character and story in advance.

If you want a good deep single player game I'd consider going for Final Fantasy XIII if you're a fan of that type of game. The first 15 hours are a bit of a slog, but the battle system keeps you going and once you hit the 15 hour mark the game really kicks off and gets its claws into you! You've like another 35 hours of gameplay after that. God of War Trilogy should be out by the time you're done with it :P

What about Darksiders it's single player only and is about 30 hours long and not to mention freeking awesome. It's going for a good price in HMV at the moment....

I am playing GOW3 having never played the first two myself. I read some of the plot from GOW 2. The first paragraph on wiki article for GOW2 plot was enough information and I am not having that much trouble understanding the plot. You meet some people who you must have pissed off during GOW1 or 2, but they explain why they don't like you so its not a major problem. Loving the game at the moment....only 3 hours in and yet it is def the most epic game I have ever played. My 4 word review so far is "Its epicness is epic".

There is also huge demo up for it, at least on the US psn. The new demo is about 1.5 hours long.

Darksiders is a great game, does a lot of what GOW3 does but without the extra polish or move set. Darksiders is more like Zelda, Bad Company is the sheet online but I haven't been motivated to finish the single player. GOW3 defo and play on the hardest difficulty, should add an extra few hours onto the experience..you may need an extra joypad by the end though.

I'm in a very similar predicament to the OP. I'm currently playing through Uncharted 2 for the first time (and loving it) but reckon I'll be done by this weekend. I have been intending to get back to finish the last few levels of MW2 on Hardened as I had abandoned it before xmas.

Darksiders does interest me, especially when I hear the Zelda references, but I'd be a bit afraid of its 'button bashiness' for want of a better term. I did download the demo mind, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. The reason I ask about this is that I'm not really into GOW, so would Darksiders be a probable no go for me as well in that case?

I'm in two minds right now whether to order a couple of platinum games that I have not played (GRID, UFC, MGS4 to name a few I'd be interested in) or to just go for something like BF2:BC to keep me ticking over for a while.

Well Bad Company 2 will last you much, much longer IF you can play online. Its awesome online! Sadly the singleplayer...sucks. I dragged myself through it for the trophies. So, if you can't get internet access anytime soon buy God of War 3.

Thanks everyone for the input so far. I'm still at a loss for what to do. My apartment block is basically student accommodation and it goes through a LAN system, which has a firewall. Its such a pain, would love to play online.

I'm kinda swayed towards GOW 3, but if that trilogy pack is out at the end of next month I might wait. Still gonna trade in Heavy Rain though, really should've rented it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,084 ✭✭✭Hyperbullet

Traded heavy rain and got......Darksiders! :D

Way I figure it I'm going to wait til the triple pack of God of War comes out next month and get through the whole story, I dont want to miss out. And thanks to everyone here for ye're input. I had no idea the single player of battlefield is so poor, damn firewall ruining my entertainment.

The BC2 single player isen't poor as such it's just.... it's just not comparable to the online really!! :D

Without the online i wouldnt bother with battlefield the online is the only thing that saves it. If you are waiting for GOW tripple pack to come out then pop into HMV they have darksiders for 22 euro new. Great game tons more fun than god of war.
