Lack of brain cells = Lack of sofa

    Where to start?

The other week a couple of people from the traveling community called round to my great-aunties asking if she'd be interested in a good deal on a sofa and a reclining armchair.

She wasn't in need of such items but remembered that her brother (my grandad) was looking for such items so she sent them down to his house with them.

She didn't bother ringing to let him know they were coming so it was a bit of a surprise when they arrived and started lugging a sofa and an armchair out of the van.

They brought the sofa around the side entrance but it wouldn't get through the back door so they left it down and contemplated the situation.

Cue my grandad storming out the back door effing and blinding demanding what's going on and being informed that his sister told the chaps he wanted the sofa. Poor feckers got a right bollocking off him.

Anyway he told them he didn't want the sofa and take it back and didn't want the armchair either. Unfortunately, the lads were exhausted and couldn't get the sofa back out the side entrance.

They pip up and tell him "One of the other bai's are out in the other van we'll get him to give us a hand and come back to ya."

Nearly 2 weeks later they still haven't returned. No sign of them whatsoever. So, my grandad broke up the sofa and intends on using it as firewood if there's any cold nights ahead. :D To be fair he was decent enough to cover it over with plastic sheeting while waiting for them to come collect it, but, they never did.

Maybe they forgot about it? Maybe they were leaving it there to scope his house out for when they come back? Who knows.

What would you have done? Keep in mind my grandad was home alone at the time and wouldn't be the most persuasive of figures.

Why do you think they never came back for the couch? Anybody have any similar experiences?

BTW before there's any I'm more holy than thou nonsense we rang the guardaí etc and they simply said "We'll keep record of it, so far nobody has reported stolen furniture so as far as we're concerned if they left it there it's yours to keep." They rang back a week later and said there was still no reports so my grandad was free to do with the couch whatever he wanted.

Well if the gards said he's free to do what he wants with it he is

However, if the lads did come back, they may not be impressed to find that their couch has been chopped up and may want a few quid or start a bit of trouble

Pfft, I can only assume you called the gardai? :pac:

That's what I was thinking as well, hell that might even have been what they'd been planning all along, I guess we'll never know

Well he was good enough to bother to cover it for 2 weeks just so he could demolish it himself! I'm just upset he didn't involve me in the occasion..... :(

Plus they never left him a number so he couldn't contact them.

your grandad sounds lovely bonito :)

i think they either forgot about the couch or they are still gonna come back for it and then go mad that its smouldering in the fireplace. :(

i would have hauled the sofa out to the road and called the council to have it removed :)

Or maybe not, you don't want Sting getting the royalties for this one.
When is it out then, and will it be available on CD?

Exhausted knackers leaving behind a couch they could sell and then forgetting about it. There's 3 parts in that sentence which seem very unlikely so ya can be expecting them back sometime soon demanding the money.

Well at least ya can smile about it..

I personally wouldn't like that knackers had been in around my house and left a couch there.. They're not idiots, everything they do is geared at making a bob or two.

Ehm if I was your granddad I would be on the eye out for a good old thieving session involving his house in the next few weeks.

The lads were tired and couldn't move it? Me arse.. they want an excuse to come back in a few weeks and fleece the place blind.

What was your aunt even thinking sending blatantly stolen goods to your granddad for him to buy anyway? It's illegal, you know.

We were thinking the same tbh. Why? Clearly she's a bit touched. God love her because someone has to. :D
