Who has heard of the 5 bite diet and what do you think of it?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zW7Er0kti_U

I can't believe he's recommending that people can live off snickers bars, but it's interesting to see someone live off so few calories. He doesn't seem ill or anything. What do you think about it?

Also, which do you think is more important, calories or nutrition? Take the following 2 people, who is healthier:

Person A eats 2500 calories a day, but they eat nothing but chocolate, pizza, chips and KFC.

Person B eats only 1000 calories a day but they eat only fruit, vegetables, chicken, oily fish and nuts.

    Which is worse off?

I didn't watch that whole video but I think you're gonna live a horrible life if you live on 2 poxy snickers bars a day.

They're both crap. I don't know what the question is really. You can't live long term on the 2nd one so it's not a viable option.

How about getting maintenance calories from fruit, vegetables, chicken, oily fish and nuts? Does that not seem like the sensible thing?

So is the second choice only bad if the person is a normal weight? Is it ok if they are overweight?

I've been wondering what the lowest calorie calculation a person work off without startign to feel like ****.
Bodyweight * 10 is not unheard of. I'd imagine it's difficult though

Not really answering your question here but if I personnelly had to choose to eat the diet of Person A or B, I would choose Person B everytime as I think that the diet of person A is pretty crap. Aren't there some studies out there regarding the benefits of consuming a limited number of calories??

My 2 cents: I haven't watched the video as it is too long. Might have a look at it at lunch. However if anybody is saying that someone could live a healthy life on snickers bars, then I would call this diet rubbish. And just the name makes me suspect it's just the next fad to cater to foks who are unwilling to adjust their lifestyle and eating habbits to a more healthier one.

Also, which do you think is more important, calories or nutrition?

MHO: Nutrition will always be more important than calories unless we are talking about the starving people of Africa etc. But IMHO in the developed world nutrition trumphs plain calories all the time.

MHO: Neither of these two people are necessarily healthier. Person A lives on a diet of nothing but foods that would be classed a "Junk Food", which could lead to a range of medical issues. Likewise person B, although eating foods which would be considered "Healthy", is eating a really low number of calories.

So my conclusion would be that there is no way I would consider Person A to be healthy, and without more information about Person B (Sex, height, weight, age, activity level etc) there is no way I could form an opinion on how healthy they are

My philosophy with regarding diet and nutrition is that if my grandparents would not recognise it as food, then I don't eat it. Seems to work for me.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

You started a whole thread on this, no?

So to give you more information. If I wanted to lose fat, I would try to do it by:

    avoiding junk
    restricting calories
    increasing calories burned

You want to know if it's ok to get by on 1000 calories a day once you get the required vitamins and minerals? I don't think so, unless you're a very small person. I think you'd find yourself fairly lethargic and depressed fairly quickly.

It's not really the same, I want to know here how low one's calories could safely go if you are still getting all of the nutrients you need.

What if they were eating enough that they weren't hungry though? Should you eat more calories even if you don't feel you need them?

I think 1000 cals is quite low. But i just did my calculations for my diet

To be honest, im not too far off it. Its important to note taht i would rarely hit that number on a non gym day its not beyond the realms of possibility that i could be opperating on 1200 cals on a non gym day and i don't feel any ill effects other then the standard fare of tiredness in the morning & keto type symptoms.

OP, find a sensible diet pick it and stick to it. don't mix approaches just find one that works for you and do it.

personally i can't recommend http://www.neilmct.com/neilmct-diet-plan.php enough. I lost a huge amount of weight using this book and associated forum.

I am no expert and certainly not a nutritionist or anything, but everything I have ever read on restricting calories for weight loss advised that you never eat below you BMR.

Your BMR is the number of calories you would require if lay in bed all day, only moving to attend the call of mother nature. This figure will be based on a persons sex, age, height, weight, etc.

Now given that there are not too many folks who can just lay in bed all day, then you also have to add in the calories required for what ever level of activity you have (excluding exercise). If you have a desk job you will obvisously require less calories than if you work as a cycle courrier.

Then if you take any form of exercise outside of normal living, then you need to account for this also.

The sum total of all this gives you your maintenance calorie figure. This will be the number of calories you require to maintain your weight. The general rule is that you drop 500 calories from your maintenance figure if you are looking to lose weight in a controlled and healthy manner. You should go slightly higher then this for a short period of time, providing that you do not drop below your BMR figure (the calories required to get through the day, not includning exercise calories)

Sure you can go the the lettuce leaf and almond nut diet (1 leaf of lettuce and 1 almond nut per day with as much water as you can drink), and of course you will lose weight. But this will not be good for either your physical, emotional or mental health.

Folks don't get over weight and out of shape over night, so they should not be sucked into these fads which promise super quick results or that you can somehow carry on eating rubbish and just become healthy..

Disclaimer: The lettuce leaf and almond diet is something I made up to prove a point. For the love of Mary, Joesph and the carpenter, please, please don't follow that diet

    PM sent, thanks man

sorry lads got side tracked, i've no problem sharing the spread sheet pm a mail address. My only concern is that it's for a specific diet, the book for which is over 100 pages long. Might be worth reading that first.
