    I'm with magneticimpulse.

Many times on holidays I've been caught away from a pharmacy with no plasters/antihistamines/painkillers whatever. So now I throw some into a small makeup bag and take them with me. Also, pharmacies tend to close in the evenings and not being local, it's hard to find a location of a late night one, so it's easiest just to have these things with you to get you through til the next day.

Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Anyway, can we get this thread back on topic rather than snide comments please? Thanks.

Because, if your sleeping and you suddenly have a running snotting nose...you can take lemsip to get you through the night. Usually my other friends carry them on holiday. So between all of us, we have enough. Hey bring more...i always have my friends visiting take me over a BOX of Lemsip, as they dont sell it outside of IRELAND/UK (FACT).

so what do you do next morning, when you still have a runny nose? or if you and your friend both have one?

As for the Tampons. I mentioned before I got a period in Schipol Airport, 10 days after a visit to Dublin, which i already had a Period. I had to buy some in the airport but they only had o.b. Mini's. It took about 2 days before I could find normal Tampax Super Plus in a Pharmacy in Amsterdam.

yep, but again, if youre unhappy with teh type/size/quality of the regular, readily available tampons, then it would make sense that you bring enough to see you through your whole period, surely:confused:

Dont forget your European medical card.
The European number for emergency services is 112.
Ibuprofrin in case you get cramps or a migraine.
Aspirin to bring down your cholestoral in case you pig out on creamy northern italian dishes.
    Solpadeine for your hangovers.
    Savlon.
    Sterilizer.
    Dettol.
    Wipes.
A portable loo incase you get stuck.
A fake tan to mix in with the locals. Leave your jolen facial bleach hair behind to really fit in.
    A first aid kit.
    A fire extinguisher.
    A flashlight.
    An axe.
    A rape whistle.

And of course your boarding passes, passport and extra cash to pay for your excess baggage.

Rape Whistle is actually good. I used to never take mine...but after a few dodgy nights out in France with some Arab Algerians...its on me all the time. Having blonde hair, getting dressed up etc with people who are dark skin, dark hair can attract unwanted attention. Good point ;)

magneticimpulse at this stage there have been two mod suggestions to chill this back and forth stuff out. Please do so. If you have an issue with a post use the report post button, rather than getting wound up about it on thread. Thanks.

I did report them and nothing was done about it and people were being so picking rather then giving a list of things to bring on holiday

Something was done about it. Check on last page warning to all to pull their head in. Typing in block capitals doesnt exactly measure up on that score. So please everyone get this back on topic. If you have an issue, no more on thread replies, please take it to PM. Thanks.

but the claim being made is that the available tampons are too small, so therefore no good. if that was how i felt, i'd make sure to have more than enough to last throughout my period
The claim was that the readily available ones were "too small" and that tampax were harder to find. By too small, I'd imagine they just didn't suit her body type, but thats besides the point. Point is, 3 of your regular tamons will give you enough time to find your usual brand or at least a brand which suits your body.

go to the pharmacy. What is so confusing about this? It's a little "in case of emergency" pack.

I have to say I'm shocked at a few posters on this thread and how annoyed they are getting over packing for a holiday. Is it necessary for a few of you to keep questioning the same poster over what she packs? Really coming across as a not very friendly place to those of us who don't post here often.

  • Look, in my opinion there is just no need to expect to have everything you'd have at home when you travel abroad. Essential meds, absolutely, but OP asked for an essential packing list, and I don't consider most things posted as essentials. Of course anything can happen but where do you stop? I just don't see any possible need for Lemsip, for example, it's a sachet of powder full of sugar and chemicals. You can buy lovely lemons and honey in Italy and put them in some boiling water, voila. I personally would never take a strong painkiller like Ibuprofen for any old ache or pain, what's wrong with paracetamol? Sun cream and things can easily be bought in Italy. There's no need to bring a cartload of make-up, one mascara, one blusher and one eyeshadow is fine. Part of the fun of going abroad is not having every last little thing you have at home, and that's being missed here. People manage to live in these countries without all these brand names we have in Ireland, so why can we not go there and do the same?

Toiletry wise I wouldn't bring more than a small bag with my toothbrush, toothpaste (I often get this abroad as I usually carry on a bag), mini deodorant, my contraceptive pill and other prescription meds, face powder for my oily skin, a few bits of make-up and maybe paracetamol Can't think of much else that I'd really need - possibly plasters if I had them around the house.
