I'm gona have the house painted shortly but I've no idea what I should pay a painter. Is it per hour? Per job? Per Sq foot? What're the rough rates does anyone know?

The paint is purchased etc so that side of the expense is done and dusted.

    Any info appreciated.

    Paul

Always get a price to do the job from a qualified decorator and stick to it.
A guy pricing per hour will sit and drink tea all day (what does he care, its on your time).
You probably have the job done now anyway!

    I'm in the same situation.

I'm lookingo to have my hall, sairs and landing painted. It's a standard 4 Bed semi (approx 1250 sq feet). How mush should i expect to pay a painter for this job?

I've done plenty of painting around the house but this job has always seemedrather daunting so i'm hoping to get a prossional in to do i & save myself he heartache...

    Any ideas on price?

It would be hard to estimate without seeing it, How many doors , do they need 2 coats ? Are they varnished or painted? Do the walls require a 3rd coat to cover a deep colour. Then theres the bannisters. I reckon to do it properly approx €800-€1000.
Just make sure he knows what hes doin cause we are fed up cleaning up after the fly by nights! Not only do they make a complete mess but as I found out only today a guy was just less than twice my price, hes not a decorator oh and hes on the dole!

Sorry , wrong end of the country for me! Though I was in your College down there to do my exams for decorating. Best months of my life:D Does Sir Henrys still exist? Some spot that.

Got a quote today from a professional - €200 to give the hall, stairs and landing 2 coats. Doesn't seem too bad at all.

Is that including or excluding VAT+materials? (hopefully it's excluding!)

It's a good price, I'd of been shocked if it included materials. Cheap paint never looks good!

I dont believe the guy is a painter and decorator (one that served a proper 4 year apprenticeship), or else hes only doing the ceiling and walls, which could be done for that price easily! Only thing is it does nt look good unless all woodwork is done too.

Does anybody know of someone who would varnish/french polish bannisters?? In the Dublin area, any responses greatly appreciated :)
