As we all know the Fourth Major begins Thursday at Whistling Straits. Just had a quick look at the betting markets for a bit of value.

    Some that stood out are:

Kim at 90/1 - although he's just back from injury it looks a good price.
    Villegas @80/1
    Stenson @100/1
    Barnes @ 125/1
    Yang @ 125/1
    Jiminez @ 125/1
    Cabrera @100/1

I am sure Kim has majors in him and i have backed him solid for two years. but did you see him last week? Plaayed like an oul wan. Same the week before. I'd be writing him off for the rest of the season. I cant even see him making the weekend.

Agreed. Kim is a bad call imo. I'll have to study more closely before making my full selections. Darren Clarke will almost certainly be one of my long e/w punts though.

i've already backed Donald and Stricker(nap)
For a few extra e/w's it might pay to stick with players that featured in the Bridgestone, good ball strickers will be rewarded, couldn't have Kim,Cabrera or Barnes

I actually didn't know he was playing last week until i read the newspaper a few minutes ago and saw he was out with Woods yesterday and finished +15. I'm still going to take a bit of him e/w though.

Absolutely do, never let anyone talk you out of a bet, i was just saying that I have practically been preaching about kim, and this is the first one in 2 years I'm not backing him (He missed the open).

Love this course. Hoping to play it next year(have family living in Wisconsin, about 10 mins away from the course!) when I'm the States.

Anyway, as posted in the gambling section at about 8 guys and picking 3-4 out of them. Haven't placed any bets but I like the looks of the following two guys:

Ryan Palmer @ 250/1 - For a guy who played very well last week to be so high(2nd) is quite surprising. Worth a couple of euro for sure.

Leonard @ 125/1 - tied 2nd last time the the course held the PGA in 04. Lost out in the 3 man playoff Vijay won. Low hitting and accurate driver, winds of the lake can play havoc I was told. He played some decent stuff in WGC even this past week too.

There are others like are -
    Jason Day @ 125/1
    Bo Van Pelt @ 66/1
    KJ Choi @ 66/1
    Adam Scott @ 40/1
    Padraig Harrington @ 20/1

I'll pick one... maybe 2 out of them.

See the tee times are out. Will starting time make as much difference the first two days as it did at St. Andrews?

Good shout on STricker. Doing him, and giving Francesco and O-Hair another chance.. Francesco will bring his putter one week and blow everyone away. Same for O'hair. Have to stop being so loyal to these guys.
I wouldnt be writing Goosen off either.

If anyone fancies Casey this week, he just twittered
Not feeling great today. Either allergies or sinus problems. Trying to sort it out so I'm good for the rest of the week

Sure why not stranger things have happend and at 125/1 its worth an e/w bet. But My money is going on ELS and mcillroy. Els is playing decent golf at the min and was one shot off the lead in 04.

Els would be worth a tiddler, but I wont be touching any of the irish lads this weekend (nor would begrudge them the win).

Heavyballs in fairness is never far off in his tips so i'm gonna stick a couple of euro on Stricker and Donald too. I think Nick Watney could go well so gonna back him also.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 450 ✭✭thelongfellow

Purely on driving accuracy and putting this place should suit Stricker 25/1

    Also rans...

    T Clark 80/1
    E Molinari 100/1

    S Lowry 175/1 :D

I think you have to look at people who drive it well and play well in the wind. Also would be looking at splitting bets in the draw.

Glover is a huge price at 125 to 1.

Cant decide between Van Pelt and Barnes

when you consider how bad he was off the tee for most of the week it was some acheivement finishing in the top 5,if he sorts the driving out he'd have an outside chance

KJ Choi would be my pick....make it 2 Koreans winners on the trot.

Whistling Straits...a links course on inland America, gotta love it :D

Does Darren Clarke have a sniff. Played well there in 2004 and back to form of late.

Nice draw for Shane Lowry - out with Kevin Na and Scott Verplank. I expected him to be playing with a couple of lesser knowns. Hope he does well. I suppose Wisconsin would be like the Offaly of America so he should feel at home. :D

i'm saying nothing after backing tiger woods last week.

He's 16/1 on betfair (an astonishing price- its the equivalent of harrington being 100/1).

I will back some huge outsiders on betfair
    jason day at 289/1
    goydos at 479/1
    gonzo at 409/1
    glover at 169/1
    palmer at 239/1
    noh at 529/1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,098 ✭✭✭Johnny_Fontane

interestingly, minimum bet on betfair is now €2, its used to be €4.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,759 ✭✭✭Dr.Silly

You just can't write off Woods, and at 16/1 is a fanstasic price.
Remember he's had e/w claims in the majors so far this year.
