Sorry for the silly question but what does this do?

Its basically a port of the much talked about PS3 Jailbreak dongle to the HTC Desire.

You flash a PSFreedom compatible ROM, and if you plug your phone into your PS3 it allows you to boot your PS3 into debug mode, which in turn allows you run unsigned code, such as homebrew. This completely opens up the PS3 to the homebrew scene. It also allows you to install a backupmanager, though the legality of this is debatable, and depends on the fairuse argument versus the bypassing copy protection is illegal argument. TBH I am unsure if in Ireland its legal to backup games you own by bypassing copy protection, clearly backing up games you don't own is completely illegal.

    Thats pretty awesome.

Do you need to have the phone attached all the time you want to run homebrew/backups?

You only need to attach the phone each time you turn on the PS3 for 10 seconds or so.

Thats not bad then. I don't like open desire tho so i'd have to find some impressive homebrew to make me use it!

Its early doors, I would imagine it will be more elegantly packaged soon, perhaps into a recovery.

Can't seem to get it working but it seems to be a hdmi issue, when i turn the ps3 back on and press eject it turns on but i can't get any output on the tv, just turning it on gets it to boot up with an unrecognised usb device message (which i think means the phone is doing its bit correctly)

It only works on 3.41 firmware, check you are on 3.41 and if not you will now need to dl 3.41 and install from USB as Sony patched the exploit this morning with FW 3.42 and you can no longer auto update to 3.41.

When I started last night mine was not on 3.41 and I got the same issues as you.

Nice one, downloading 3.41 now. I'm currently on 3.3

Yeah but you have no access to PSN which is a major downside if you like playing online afaik

There seems to be a couple of ways around the forced update so you can still login if you really wanted
