    307's have a terrible reputation.

read up on www.carsurvey.org, or parkers.co.uk, or honestjohn.co.uk

    I have owned Peugeots (a 205, and 2 406's (and also a Clio and a Scenic)) but I would never buy a 307.

The (facelift) 307 sw's are a nice motor with plenty of space and comfort.
The 1.6 hdi's are a great engine but need regular oil changes as the sump only
holds 3.5 litres of oil...20,000km service interval is alittle much on these and 15,000km would be better using a low ash fully syn oil which is dpf friendly.

Like all cars a fsh is vital but with 47k miles it should be o.k.
Your Diesel partical filter will not need attention until 100-120k miles so you
    should be fine for awhile..:)
    Best of luck.

I owned a 307SW petrol and the only problem I had was the fuel pump which went after about 4yrs. It was a comfy car, took everything in its stride, loads of space when you take out the rear seats, and had a nice bright interior - if you get the glass roof. I've seen all the negative reviews of 307s I have to say my experience was very positive. So much so I've now gone to the 308Sw 1.6hdi - all the same practical features and a great engine that averages 55mpg around town.
I'd say that if you can verify the history you could end up with a very nice motor!!

ok... did a cartell check just to be sure..to be sure..

And Its a Northern import.. first reg in Dec 09...

cold feet all of a sudden.. thoughts? should I be worried?

Make sure to do a HPI check also.It wouldn't bother me if it was a northern car. They are probably better minded than their neighbours down south. If HPI is clear and has FSH and you like it, then go for it.

If its the 90bhp it won't have a dpf...one thing less to worry about...:)
Nice looking motor....maybe see if they will the move on the price..:)

If you're paying cash, I'd be looking for a better price. Also, what kind of warranty are you getting with it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,937 ✭✭✭ewj1978

I've done the credit check et al and its all come back clean as a bell..
Normal 6 months warranty with it..
I'm trading in a 04 punto with 66k miles and got it down to €6k.. not great I know but hopefully the rustle of notes will bring it down more on the morning I buy..

Not really, they know you want the car and won't be leaving without it, deal is done.

What's his cash price for the Pug? You'll probably find he'll take around €6500 - €6750 cash, which means you could sell the Punto for half nothing and still be up on the deal ;)

To be sure, get someone else to ring up asking for the cash price...:D

Are you 100% sure its the SW model?

Just thought i'd post a link to another 307sw so you can compare.
Note the 2 extra seats at the very back. These can be easily removed.
Also note the 3 individual back seats. Handy for people with kids in car seats.
The link you posted earlier doesn't seem to have these back seats hence me asking is it definitely a 307SW

The one you posted is the SE(high spec) model, the one th op is looking at is the S(basic) model so they just have different seats, the op's one still has the 3 seats in the back with the 3 shoulder straps and the seats will move like the SE. The 2 extra seats in the back are an option on that model and the mounting points for the extra seats are in them all

Which would imply its not the SW model which the OP says it is????

Think the SW also has the glass roof

My understanding is that SW means station wagon which it is.The spec doesn't affect whether it's an sw or not?

My understanding is the SW means Sky wagon cos of the roof but i'm open to correction here. It would be overkill to call the car a spacewagon estate?

Tbh..this is a discussion ongoing at home too... Was sure it said SW on the boot yet any SW pics I've seen have a sky roof and 2 seats/possibility of 2 seats in rear. Also the sw have 3 seperate fold away seats while this has a 2+1 in the back.

It may just be an S estate...

IMO its a 307 S and not an SW. But if you are happy with the car that shouldn't bother you. Looks a fine motor and IMO Peugeot make some of the best Diesel engines. The question is do you need or want the extra seats and glass sky roof?
Maybe you could factor that in to bargaining?

it is a Peugeot 307 SW S, the one you put up is a peugeot 307 SW SE. its a bit confusing i no but the SW is the estate version of peugeot hatcbacks, S or SE refer to the differant spec..

I'm afraid you are wrong. I was just talking to JJ Burkes in Ballinrobe and Joseph there informed me that SW means SkyWagon. Not confusing really

yes which they call an estate, peugeot have been calling their estates SW long before they started putting glass roofs on them

Funny that cos on the link the OP gave there's no SW on the back of the car and its clearly an estate.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 59 ✭✭dodger50

I would think that the OP's car is indeed an "estate" as opposed to "SW"
The estate has a rear bench seat and not individual seats.
Also the roof rails are silver on the SW.
The extra 2 seats in the back were an extra - at least back in '03

The EXECUTIVE was the higher spec as sold in Irl. ie climate control instead of air con, folding mirrors, auto wipers and lights etc It may be badged differently elsewhere.

This is the car.... well equivalent...

    clicky

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,937 ✭✭✭ewj1978

    bit of a bump...

    It is An SW estate.

because its an UK import they have more variety in specs than in Ireland.

My wife has a 02 model . Its a sky wagon . The build quality isn't great and it dents very easily. My wife is moaning about fuel consumption and is only getting low 30mph on a 1.6L. That said its never let her down but a lot of the plastic bits inside break as do the door handle covers .

Are you sure? Thought the 307SW wasn't launched in Ireland till 2003
