Brake pads, disks covered by Dealer Warranty?

Hi, I bought a two-year-old Ford from Main Dealer. Manufacturer's Warranty was up and I got a 1-year Dealer Warranty.

I brought it back within the year because there was an annoying screech coming from the front wheel.

He told me that there was a "lip" on the brake disk, but I'd have to change the pads and disks, and they're not due a change until maybe next service.

Now I still have my noisy screech! So I'm wondering now was he just trying to put me off until my Dealer Warranty is up .....

When I bought the car there was 74000km on it and now there's 94000km. I'm sure brakes pads, disks wear 'n tear, but they gave me a 1-year warranty when there was already 74K on the clock.

So my question is, can I get them to replace my front pads, disks for free?

Before anybody asks, no I don't know what it says in my warranty, I just have a bill of sale that says "1-year warranty". So I guess my question is a general one about what usually would and would not be covered by a Dealer Warranty. What are the chances that I might be covered for this?

    Thanks a million.
    /M.

I would say a definite 'no'

Brake discs and pads are a consumable item and wouldn't be covered under any warranty.

No, would you expect them to replace a tyre for you? Same thing.

Highly unlikely they will replace for free. Most warranties dont cover things like brake pads.Your best bet is buy them yourself and get a good mechanic to do the work.

i might have misunderstood your post but did you actually change the discs and pads? if you have they should fix the noise as they shouldn't make any. if you haven't, pads and discs wouldn't be covered under any warranty unless they had a manufacturing fault. seems like wear and tear in this case though so unfortunately you'll have to pay up for it. it may be worth getting it done in a non main dealer garage to keeps costs down.

Brake pads and discs are consumable items like tyres and bulbs. Very unlikely to be covered by a used car warranty unless there was a fault with them.

    No,

Pads and Disks are wear and tear. If you dont replace the pads when their spent they'll score the discs and you'll need to change those too.

Cost me about 140 euros to do it myself on my Volvo, Floating discs so its easy enough to do yourself.

Discs and pads are not covered under manufacturer warranty unless defective so it will be same in your case. It appears your are simply worn so its a maintenance issue

change brake pads yourself should nt cost more they 50 euro from any motorfactors unless you buy ford brake pads, discs are more expensive bout 100 euro, i would nt change them unless lip is more then 3 - 4 mm or worped, just remove one of the wheels and have a quick look, takes bout 10 15 mins to change brake pads,

In fairness 99% of the car driving public would have f all inclination or desire to go playing with the brakes on their car :)

well they really should learn, takes f k all time, and most of the tools to do it are in the boot of the car, if you take it to a garage your paying for very min. 1 hour labour @ 100 euro plus price of pads / discs, try it yourself once see how you get on worst case if it goes wrong then take in to a mechanic, but there really is nothing to go wrong, hardest part is removing old ones after that your just putting it back together

I can change pads fine thanks :)
However if it goes wrong I don't see how you can take it to a mechanic :pac:

Disks and pads would never be covered under warrenty, especially 20k after you bought the car.

If the disks have a lip then they should be changed along with the pads. A lip of 3-4mm has been mentioned, on modern cars this will be well below the manufacturers minimum limit and waiting untill a lip is that large is just neglect of maintenance.
