Chef is horrible...too sweet. HP is the best, especially with a fry up, but there's some unease when I look at the houses of parliament on the dinner table. Feel like a traitor.

I die a little inside everytime I get it out of the cupboard. :pac: but the tastiness makes up for it!! :p

Just what the hell is Brown Sauce supposed to be?

Most people have favourites and have recipes for its use, but what is it?

I'd actually love to know this too. I'm never sure if it's something people really like or if it's just a joke with a reference to Trainspotting.. A joke like "oooh google blue waffle" and everyone does and regrets it...

Not too bothered about the brand, but I am rather partial to a bit of the brown with some shepherds pie or a cheese sandwich. I can't see the point on a bacon sandwich though - I want to taste the bacon.

I went to the shop last week to buy a bottle of HP sauce - I'm paying 8c a week for the next 12 weeks.

What exactly is in brown sauce...? My mind was blown when I discovered that mayonaise is made from eggs, so I expect this revelation will make my monocle fall out too

Last time I read ingredients the main ingredient was apple and vinegar.

This wasn't any of the main brands though just some sachet of generic stuff in a canteen.

HP Sauce has a malt vinegar base, blended with tomato, dates, tamarind extract, sweetener and spices.

    Mind blowing? Probably not.
    Delicious? Absolutely.

My mind is pretty blown, I would not expect any combination of apple, vinegar, tomato, dates, or any of that other stuff you mentioned, to produce brown sauce.

Was thinking it was some sort of meat/gravy-based thing.

Chef all the way!!! Nothing like it on my saturday fry up! I'm off for a rasher sambo now......

YR not too bad. HP offends my very being and should be reported for offences against the state. THose big bottles of Kandee sauce are absolute rank. Chip vans always have them. Like someone put ash in normal brown sauce.

Anybody tried the ALDI brown sauce? I'm tempted every time I see it.
