The new regulations for learner drivers come into effect from the 4th of April. I know that if you have your theory test sat and passed that the new rules don't effect you. My question is that if I sit my test on the 4th will I fall into the new category or the old one?

If I fall into the new one then I might reschedule my test for an earlier date!

As far as I can tell from reading it you need to have the licence in your hand by the date, not just the test done. Which is why I'm making my bf do it on Tuesday...

"Learner drivers in posession of a Learner Permit issued in advance of 4 April 2011 will not be subject to the new initial basic training (IBT) requirements. " is what the RSA states.

Some councils can take over two weeks to process a postal application for a licence, also.

i take it that is in relation to FIRST learner permits - the whole in hand thingy.

so me on a subsequent permit would be ok.

what i mean by that is my previous permit expired just before christmas (it was my 3rd) but in order to apply for my 4th permit i needed to have proof of application for my driving test. well i didn't have this as i couldn't afford the test fee. i still can't (and the fee for the licence on top) so at the moment don't have my 4th learner permit.

i won't be subject to these new regulations will i?

I would imagine you'd be OK as you won't be doing the theory test again.

No. After theory test and permit is in your posession; before practical test.
