i was watching it too. first off i thought he'd get a yellow. he just shoulder charged into carter.

this would be one of the reasons i think hammet is getting rid of nonu. that was a very silly penalty to give away.

Maybe, but Nonu is like Mafi on speed. Any news of his signing with Munster yet? :D

Nah he more hit him with the side of his chest. This sort of thing happens all the time and gets unpunished, there is no doubt that Carter gets preferential treatment based on who he is.

Proper order too! Dan is like Jonny (W) or the Queen - you can look, grovel or curtsey but you cannot touch and certainly not tackle. :D

Carter needs more attention due to who he is. Other teams will target him specifically. It's a compliment to him. Phil Dowson took out Toby Flood and Jonny Sexton in consecutive weeks for Northampton simply because he knows they're crucial players for their respective teams. Pretty scummy behaviour and he got away with both. I'm glad to see Nonu get pulled up on this. All well and good if he absolutely smashed Carter into next week with a legal tackle but this was just designed to rattle Carter and undoubtedly a penalty.

Thats just the way Nonu tackles. It wasn't late or high. If he'd used more arm it would have been fine. I don't think there was any intent in it to be honest. Penalty alright but talk of a yellow is way off.

On the other hand Dowson and Northampton in general are scummy to the extreme in the way they target 10's. Jimmy Gopperth could have been crippled in the league game against the Saints. I think Sexton took it very well. He's physical enough to ride most late hits and if anything he grew in confidence every time they tried something.

That's not scummy behaviour, its what your 7 is supposed to do!

I know this is an awful way to put it, but for me this is at the lower end of a shoulder charge.

Bad call from the linesman, but only a yellow if you hate contact sports.

Surely you mean any? as more would indicate he attempted to use his arms at all which clearly he didn't!

A good seven should always look to make frequent and forceful contact with his opposing 10.

As long as it's not too late or targeting knees or anything then have at it. Smart out-halves learn how to avoid the hit.
