How long is garda vetting taking these days?

My friend is 'in clearing' for a position in the civil service. They heard that the required garda vetting would take about 10 weeks in April when they were originally put into clearing. They have now been told that it will take a further 4 weeks. 14 weeks??! This seems a lot. Surely the vetting unit can't be that busy at the moment?
I am waiting to be put into clearing myself for the same panel and just wondering if anyone out there knows what the delay is in the vetting unit. Some posts I've read on Boards suggest that it's usually 6-8 weeks...

A friend of mine has been waiting 7 weeks for his. that is for volenteer work. I think larger organisations like the HSE ect. have a special liason in the vetting office and it is much quicker. Was just wondering if anyone knows is Garda vetting the process used by the DAA to give security clearance to work at the airport?

Was told recently by my college lecturer that its taking 16weeks. They need to vet all students going on the course, so all had to hand in their forms extra early. Its madness

Like everything else in this country until the govt is made to suffer financially by having to pay extra dole to people delayed in getting jobs by this ridiculous overreaction to the scandals of the past then nothing will be done to increase resources to speed up this process.

People affected should start taking cases to the European Court of human rights for being denied jobs due to delays in this process.

There should be a league table of various European countries comparing time taken to do this vetting.

I tried ringing them just them to get an update on mine (Im in the UK and need an irish one to suffice till my UK one comes thru, which is mad because the UK one only takes 48 hours!)..no answer; all operators are "busy" and then they say call back later and your call automatically ends :)

But yup, i heard 16 weeks...

yes just heard again that it could be 12-14 weeks. Ridiculous!

No- this is nothing to do with the Garda Trainee application. There is a thread about the gardai and applications relating to it in the security forum (I think).
They haven't opened the competition yet for the trainee gardai so I'm sure if you are registered on publicjobs you will get their usual email to tell you when the competition opens.

My friend had a problem 3 years ago. She was in dunnes store she pay for her sanwich but she didnt pay for her yohurt. She has done it may be 3 times the security catch her after 3 times the security ask her the receipt and they said the have to call a garda.

The garda came make her to pay for her yohurt what she didnt pay. But the garda didnt take her to the station to take the finger print.

I just wondering is that a conviction she said to the garda yes she done it for few times. She didnt go to the court nothing.

She got a job at the airport now they will do a garda vetting.

you can only get a conviction if she went to court, it won't show on her vet form.

as for the daa, they give you a temporary one while you wait for the real vet form and it takes about a month i hear.
