    from WWE.com :
In the final round of the WWE Championship Tournament, Rey Mysterio and The Miz meet on the next Raw to determine the undisputed holder of WWE's golden prize. Who will be crowned the new WWE Champion?

They'll have to show CM Punk/Comic-Con footage because it promotes WWE/Mattel and furthers the storyline. Probably just a few photos.

I also get the sneaky feeling that a new champion won't be crowned, rather it'll be some BS finish and it'll be a triple threat at SummerSlam instead (add in Cena). If not, are you going for Miz or Rey Rey?

I'm sure we'll get another promo from Señor Dinero en el Banco. I wonder if Beth Phoenix's surprising number of votes a few months back in the "Power to the People" RAW has spurred WWE on to renew a push?

Has to be Miz. He is the complete opposite to Punk with his suits, cathphrases, no tatoos, fohawk etc.

Probably part of Punk's new contract!

If the plan is for Punk to come back and face the eventual champion, then I reckon Rey should win. Not only does it set up Rey vs Cena which would be a big AND fresh main event for Summerslam, it also sets up Rey vs Punk which, although done to death, we know is a match which can live up to the hype.

If Miz wins, he drops it straight to Cena and thats the end of his involvement. He just doesn't fit into the Punk angle in my eyes.

I'm hoping Ryder will have something to do; if they want to push HHH as being "different" to Vince, giving Ryder a chance to prove himself would go over well with a lot of fans.

I also hope they don't achknowledge Punk's comic-con appearance on Raw. I don't even like they are doing it on WWE.com. At most, they should run a hacking angle with Punk pictures appearing briefly and then disappearing the next day. At most, HHH should mention it but not publicise it.

Unless, I suppose, they go with the angle that HHH is going to try and convince Punk to come back and he's going to start taunting him or something...

CM Punk could "pay for advertising" on Raw at some stage (The following announcement has been paid for by the New World Order CM Punk :pac:). Or the old classic "Hey I just bought a ticket like everybody else" line. I'm sure they'll eventually get round to stuff like that.

I think I said this on here before but it would not hugely surprise me to see Punk front row at Summerslam with Cabana beside him, holding up signs and using the megaphone to disrupt matches. Maybe even cost Cena the title or something...

there's definitely a delicate balance between staying true to the angle (Punk's gone from WWE) and having him return as he's the hottest thing in wrestling at the moment. I can definitely see both PK and TSC's angles being used. It's also why i think WWE should hold off crowning a new WWE champion until Summerslam :)

I thought Kelly won this quite easily?

Getting more votes than Eve is not something to brag about sadly. Eve may be sexy as hell and a useful worker but damn she is so unover its unreal even for a diva.:eek:

I don't think there will be a reveal of the Raw GM. I think Triple H will play the on air person in charge for the next few weeks. I think with Chairman Triple H running things we will see a few new things to make it feel like Triple H is actually running things. I'm hoping that there will be a NEW WWE Championship Belt for the winner of the tournament. They should have a new set up for Raw including new intro and theme song. I really think that if the WWE wants this Chairman Triple H to be a successful storyline they need to play it up like things are different now.

Yeah one of the podcasts I listened to really stressed that. Along with more intense stuff like using different cameras angles and the structure of the show.

More like ten years. Foley talks about it in his third book. Foley feels that HHH never said thank you for helping him get over/Foley and others think HHH is resentful of how much Foley was a part of getting HHH over as more than a midcarder in 1997 and then as a credible Champion in 1999/2000. Foley also called Hunter out for calling Lillian Garcia a horse face on Raw.

On Hunter's end HHH asked Foley for help on Hunter's workout book/biography and Foley passed on it.

Triple H's nickname in production meetings and such like is Homeless Harry as well...he dresses like a tramp.

It should be. Hunter's first show and the fact they need to set up Summerslam.

Raw is live this week. We don't know what's going to happen on it any more than you do! :) So the choice is yours. Check out this week's Raw thread for more info.

How can they crown a new champion when Punk has the title?

What will happen when Punk comes back with the proper championship, and there's a "champion" with a new title.

Sorry for my ignorance but I've only just started to get back into the Wwe in recent weeks.

Have to say I enjoy Smackdown more than Raw these days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90,391 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

I hope the comic con Punk encounter is mentioned

I think HHH will try and organise a meeting with Punk to "try and get him to re-sign"

You should work in WWE's PR department. :pac: Yeah that is the hook for tonight and beyond.

In 1993 Shawn Michaels then IC Champ failed a real drug test so WWE stripped him of the belt only for Razor Ramon to win the IC title. Few months later Michaels came back wearing the IC title declaring himself as the real Champion. So they hung both belts above the ring in a Ladder match at Wrestlemania X.

That's one way it could play out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Hey bro, welcome to PW boards! We're all amigos here :) Great to hear Punk has persuaded old fans to come back.

kayfabe-wise they've stripped CM Punk of the WWE title and have created a tournament to crown a new one.

When it happens in UFC, where a champion is injured for an extended period, they create an interrim champion, and when the original/"real" champion comes back they fight to amalgamate the belts. I imagine a similar thing will happen in WWE. Whenever Punk comes back he'll challenge whoever is holding it.

They did run this interrim storyline with the Intercontinental Championship with Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon in 1994.

Seriously tho Alberto is cashing in tonight. :p

me no likey short title reigns. Because whatever happens sooner than later, Cena's getting that title and fighting Punk. It'd be nice if WWE didn't devalue the belt by having two meaningless title reigns inbetween that. Especially for someone's first title win.

That would be interesting. I really hope that Punk does not lose the title when he comes back, especially to Cena.

Punk needs an extended run as champion, while I think it would do Cena the world of good to back off for a while. Maybe give younger wrestlers a push by being involved in good matches with them.

Cena vs Alberto for the title has been the plan since the draft

With this CM Punk storyline, they had the best story on Raw for ages, and now its taking a backseat to this Triple H and Vince thing. O sigh. Unless theyre incorporating CM Punk in, which explains the comic con. But I just thought they could've gone a better way with it

how is it taking a back seat? If anything it enhances Punk's reputation as being the guy who got Vince fired surely?

Well thats my fear. But he'll surely be taking a backseat to Triple H!

Lets just say the story started out red hot and week by week its getting slowed down.

    Just my humble opinion

If HHH takes over as the new "Mr. McMahon" then the one thing that is guaranteed is that Punk will not take a back seat to him. The majority of peopl hate their boss, so the natural way to get heat is to be the boss everyone wants to hate. It also means that anyone who sides again HHH in the future will get an automatic face turn.

This benifits CM Punk because when he comes back he will be the biggest babyface on the roster. Put him up against HHH and you will have a remake of Austin vs McMahon from the attitude era, with the Punk as the real champ vs HHH's interm champ. It would make sure Punks current incredible pops don't stop anytime soon.

you're entitled to that opinion, but i strongly disagree with it.

i've seen a few opinions similar to this, and i think it's just borne out of the fear we all have, knowing HHH's obsession with the limelight, that he will ULTIMATELY take it for himself.

i just don't share that worry.

Punk is the reason HHH is in this possession, and this storyline, with Punk the central piece, is the reason Vince has retired his on-screen character.

if this were all about HHH, then the Punk cameos this week wouldn't have happened.

Punk is the big next anti-hero, and from what we've seen, the company are behind him. there is no denying this push...

...from the fact he's directly interacted with McMahon, and bested him, to headlining the '5th Major' PPV, winning, and leaving with the belt, there is no way even HHH is overshadowing the rise of Punk, unless WWE try extremely hard to do so.

Punk and HHH have been at loggerheads, both on-screen, and behind the scenes (from what I can tell) for years. this feud is ready-made. and if HHH has learned anything from McMahon, as he's claimed he has, he will know that, especially in his position as on-screen chairman, he will have to take a backseat ultimately to the hero - just like McMahon did for Austin.

WWE will have to do very, very well to fúck this up...and all the recent stuff has pointed to the fact that they realise, finally, that...

    Punk = money.

and money rules for Vince, and it will ultimately rule for the son-in-law.

Just on the topic of people fearing that the HHH and Vince storyline will overshadow the Punk one, doesn't it have to appear that it's the main story for a while? Punk is supposed to be gone, so to give the loss of the title from the company credibility he must stay away for a while.
I think the story they're doing right now is about the right way to do it, it's linked with Punk so that's ticking over in the background while the "main" story rumbles on every week on TV. Basically it has to appear that HHH - McMahon is overshadowing Punk but really it's keeping it going.

+1 to spiritcrusher's post. This angle should be let build for months and months. I see nothing wrong with the climax of the angle being at Wrestlemania. Long term planning pays off when well executed.

I see Punk being back at Summerslam either in a re-match with Cena (somehoe getting the belt back) or in a 3 way with the winner of tonight's match, Cena and Punk.

Summerslam is one of their big shows of the year and I just can't see them not putting Punk on the show when there is so much interest in him.

Well what I expect to happen and what I want to happen are pretty often 2 very different things when it comes to the WWE.

Nonetheless, keeping Punk off the card strikes me as a great idea for Summerslam. Long term gain and all that. Wasting all the interest in him by bringing him back quickly would be up there with their most idiotic ideas.
