Think they made a loss last year due to new servers. I was trying to subscribe for a year by Laser but it's not possible atm. May well subscribe as a Christmas present to Boards.

Will this prize have a value greater than €2.50? If so I will consider entering...
The prize will have no monetary value.
Just spit it out or f*ck off. Jesus christ, man - getting on a lame power trip because you know some gimp bit of info. You didn't even download the right year, FFS.
    Temper temper!

The traffic to the website alone is worth about 170k after that its how good the sales team is which i assume is really good as its done by distilled media then you have boards deals which id say has blown things out of the water since its started.
Um, not being smart but how exactly would our visitors be worth 170K on their own.... we're not making Soylent Green over here you know :)

the turnover might be decent, but the majority of that has to go to pay Dev's hooker and coke habbits, danny's gambling debt and they still have to pay monty to keep quite about that thing he saw at the office in 2004...

I'll save you all the trouble of downloading stuff (though knock yerselves out :) )

We make about 40K-50K a month on ads gross. Now we pay for the sales service so thats a third gone and the rest is eaten by staff costs and overheads. Easily.
Legal fees hurt, badly and one bad case and its game over.

A lot of people on this thread really *really* dont know much about the webgame :)

BoardsDeals is separate from Board (ie, it has its own staff etc) but we're technically the same Ltd Company so the accounts will reflect that. I dunno the numbers for them. Its doing grand though, very happy with it.

Finally, you have to remember that accountants are very odd creatures altogether so sometimes end of year accounts are very far from the truth (eg: you buy a server, it gets depreciated over 5 years and that shows on your accounts for 5 years but the money leaves the actual bank account day 1!).

The Coke and Hookers are a lie, made up by us many years ago in response to the same sort of over-valuations above!

ps: a website which is selling even 20% of its inventory of ads is doing pretty well. Something to bear in mind :)

I was serious above about not seeing the ads. Nothing blocked either. May want to look into that in case I'm not the only one. Though, I'm not sure if boards gets revenue per click or for just having the ads displayed. If it's the latter, then leave things as they are!

Oh, and I'm happy to help by subscribing. If all users did it, then those legal fees wouldn't be so dangerous. I'd hate to lose boards.ie.

I'd reckon similar. There are a lot of costs involved or at least it would be my take that there's more love for the place than profit that keeps it going.

No. It doesnt. It just doesnt. :)
(thats a gross figure, our net income as a company is 2/3rds of that... now do the math on salaries. Now house those people, keep them warm, lit and operating computers. Now pay PRSI for them. Now cry.)

And here's the subscription page: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/payments.php

Unfortunately, it seems to be Paypal only :(

Admittedly a minor inconvenience, but a hurdle all the same .

We're working on getting CC processing facilities for Boards. You quite simply would not believe the hoops we have had to jump through.

Then they told us they thought we were too small and an "internet startup". Basically if you arent a multinational, you can forget getting a merchant account in this country because the banks just wont do it.

Hope to have that sorted in a few months. Yes, it will take that long :(

I still think thats slightly conservative considering you've pretty much offering a tailored advertising product [watch how the ads change per forums you visit].
    Ads? What ads?
    I don't get any ads.

I have experienced this (jumping through hoops, writing letters, interviews, etc) from Irish banks too regarding getting a merchant account, it's a huge barrier to business in this country and costing the state valuable income because we ended up having to go with a UK bank (you probably know which one I'm talking about) and the setup process was very simple and fast.

That UK bank are now getting a % of all our transaction fees, monthly charges, etc and making a nice profit from us. Well done Irish banks!

I have that too, and it's turned off for boards for two reasons:

    1. The ads are relevant and unobtrusive, and the site reputable, so AdBlocker is unnecessary.

    2. It's a site I use every bloody day and it relies on ad revenue, blocking the ads is like using a service without paying, in other words, you're stealing boards
