    Any golfbuddy users out there?

Just wondering what is the verdict. I'm in the market for buying a gps in the next couple weeks. Know a couple lads with skycaddie, they find it good. But I was looking at golfbuddy as there is no annual fees.
Just wondering if anyone here has feedback. On their website there seems to be most Irish courses available

    Super device
Couldn't fault it have it a year never let me down on any course

    That's great to hear.

Was just reading an online review which said golf buddy is calculated using google maps and is not mapped by foot so there could be issues over accuracy

You play at blarney if I'm right
I've used it there, muskerry lee valley fota off the top of my head as well as many others ....it's perfect

That's great, ya blarney is my club. And those others you mentioned would be courses I play regular enough. So I'm glad to hear it works well at all those with no issues.

    Which model device have you?

that ain't true. golf buddy is mapped by foot. any of the iphone golf apps you can download use google maps, and so I would imagine are not as accurate as golf buddy which is supposed to have an accuracy of +/- 1 yard.

my advice is to go with golf buddy all the way

Super, that online review I saw was not accurate so.

I see in their online list of courses that many of the Irish courses have been recently added or uddated which is good to see

Still haven't bought it, planning on the tour model. Best price I've seen is still €249

I bought Golf Buddy World on EBay used it tonight in Blarney, spot on, great bit of kit it cost me 316euro it's 430euro in Cork for the platinum the World is the same but screen is a bit smaller which means it fits in you pocket. I eagled the par 5 9th 134 yards with an 8 iron into the wind. If I didn't have the Golf Buddy I know I would have used a 9 iron. If you can afford it get it, it's a great help

Little bit of a self plug here,

Selling 2nd hand sky caddy, can let it go for about €140 if interested, ad is on adverts.
Used for a year but use a bushnell now.
On the issue of GPS devices, find them great for the home course but on away courses where you do not know where the pin is front or back bushnell is the job!

Does anyone know how to identify the rechargeable battery used in the GolfBuddy Plus? The only identifying marks on mine are Lithium-Polymer and 3.7v along with someone's product code number.

No it's not waterproof, so you'll have to look after it in the same way you would with your moblie phone.

It's water resistant as opposed to water proof but that still means the rain isn't really a problem ( but dropping it into water might be). I had it out in torrential rain yesterday with no problems.

Just make sure the plastic bits are still intact, such as the part that keeps the water out of the USB port.

I think another "feature" of the Golf Buddy is that it updates the courses if requested to do so (someone comes out), and you can then download the updated map. Handy if someone updates the course layout.

I have a GolfBuddy Tour and have had it for 3 years now. I still get 4 - 5 rounds of golf between charges. I update courses on a regular basis and have all Ireland and UK courses loaded at the same time.
I simply click it to the bag when I'm playing and I play in all weather conditions and have had no problem with rain whatsoever.
I'd say accuracy is 3 to 4 yards but show me an amateur golfer who needs better accuracy than that ?
Highly recommended - not least because you never have to pay for course updates or anything else after you've bought the device.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,098 ✭✭✭Johnny_Fontane

you need to update your golfbuddy......mount juliet is there alright but only since 9/9/11.

they do add's the whole time on it. My own course originally only had distance to pin, but now has full course map.

Ya updated mine recently too after checking some courses in Spain that were not available before this year
All worked great on the trip

A quick question afaik there is 5 differant models of the golf buddy. platinum, world, tour, pro and plus.

But which of these would be the best value for money?
Where is the cheapest place in Ireland or online to get one of these?

had one "pal" who tried this. Turned out his 290 yard "boomers" were 225 yard puffs. He soon forgot about gps.

Go to the range at a tournament, watch lee, daz or rors smashing driver. These fellas average 290, and they are "baiting" the cover off the thing.

When I get a yardage of 150 from the pin I just can't "pull" a club at all. I don't know if I should knock the teeth out of a sand wedge, fat a 4 iron, sky a three wood or just revert to a "stock" 7 iron.

Normally my nexy GPS is 130 yards to the hole, progress.
