By popular demand, here is an off-topic thread for all the stuff you have wanted to discuss on this forum but haven't had a chance. Before pouring forth a stream of consciousness through your keyboard please be aware that the forum charter still applies so be mindful of the following:
    Forum Rules
    • PROMOTERS if you're advertising for bands please go here and a have good read. If you don't adhere to this, you will receive a warning and then a banning.
    • NO MUSIC EQUIPMENT FOR SALE POSTS do it once you'll be warned, twice and yer banned.
    • NO EXCESSIVE BUMPING OF THREADS at least wait a day or so before bumping a thread, if you get excessive with your bumping you'll get a temp banning.
    • NO LINKING/REQUESTING LINKS TO MP3s or any other material that you don't own the copyright to, doing so will earn you a permanent holiday (for more information on copyrighting your material see the resources thread)
    • NO FLAMING other users, no racism, no sexism, no your band/music is rubbish-ism, banning is guaranteed.
    • NO COMMERCIAL ADVERTS of any kind, they'll be deleted post haste and a banning wont be far behind either
    • NO OFF TOPIC POSTS as in the guidelines above please post in the correct forum
    • NO SPAMMING anyone who repeatedly posts the same/similar topics will have all their threads deleted and get a temp banning to boot
    • NO THREAD SPOILING if you don't have an interest in a band/musicians or dont like their influences don't post in it as it just takes away from the thread, do it 3 times and you're banned
    • NO DUPLICATE THREADS If you need something changed in an existing thread that you have created and you cannot do it yourself, please contact one of the forum moderators and they will sort it out for you. Duplicate threads will be deleted.
    • DON'T PUBLISH PHONE NUMBERS that includes your own. This is basically a security thing. Put your email address up or PM.
    • DON'T ask for links to tab sites unless you REALLY need them, remember Google is your best friend.
    • DON'T BUMP OLD THREADS. If you're responding to an ad please check the date of the last post. If it's back in 2006 then please just create a new thread.

If an off-topic post is posted in an off-topic thread and there's no one around to read it is it still considered off-topic?

why is nobody looking for a bassist in cork?

I'm sure someone must be. Is this the only avenue you tried? Why not try the noticeboards at Crowleys, Pro Musica, Cork City library, etc?

Are people here full-time or part-time musicians?

I am part-time, and to date, I compose all the music for the band that I'm in. I sometimes wonder how much I could write if I did it full-time, or would I just arse around all day, watching TV...

What are your experiences, whether full or part time?

I'm definitely part-time. I work full time as a software developer. Playing music is my vain attempt to avoid staring at a computer monitor when I finish work. Unfortunately that rarely happens as I end up staring at the monitor if I'm writing music or jamming along (even if it's just to queue up MP3s) :).

Anyone know of a management company that would look after booking and enquiries while I am showcasing my band?
