I've seen Irish jerseys (the one below, not the current one) in Sports Direct in the Metro Center in Newcastle selling this jersey without the sponsor. Can't even find it on their website.

    I was quite surprised actually.

I'd love that jersey without the sponser.

    Fúcking smelly 3 logo.

can i ask why people have a problem buying and wearing jersies that had AIG, dulux paint or carlsberg on them etc etc but its a big drama when you cant get an irish jersey without them on it?

id be pretty sure, you wont get many united or liverpool tops without the sponsors on it. for what its worth, it is possible to get jerseys without the sponsors on it, its rare, but possible.

am i the only person that thinks the new jersey is too much like northern ireland?

The problem to these people is that the replicas they buy don't look like what the players on the pitch wear.

Tho personally I won't wear any jersey with a corporate sponsor on it anyway. If someone wants me to go around advertising some company then they can pay me to do it, not the other way round.

Im sorry but I think Kevin Kilbane shouldnt go. There are a lot better than he is there. He has been fantastic for Ireland but he day is over

No Glen Whealen is never going to happen. He might not split open defences with slick passes but he has played every minute of the qualifiers and has great defensive and ball winning qualities. On paper you can put out a good midfield without him but Id prefer him against tough opposition

Would you try and get Cox or Best into that squad?

England fans not rioting isnt going to make many headlines. It would be a pointless exercise by the FA and detrimental to grass roots football if they play an away game and make less money out of it rather than playing at Wembley.

By that logic England should never play an away friendly international ever again??? Imagine if every country took that logic!

I doubt too many people will be aware of Aidy White, he recently pledged his allegiance to ourselves. Plays for Leeds and has been a revelation for us at LB this season. Played and scored for the U-21'S the other night.

This tournament will probably be too soon for him as he won't really get a chance to make an impact yet. But keep an eye out for him in the future. Some people are still unsure about his best position, LB or LW. The lad has unreal pace and gets forward at every given opportunity. Very exciting prospect.

    That's nonsense.

    Whelan does what he does.

We could have 4 creative midfield players/wingers and we'd get carved open every time the other team attacked.

Estonia would probably have beaten us if we had Stephen Ireland and or Andy Reid in centre of midfield, and possibly any of Holohan, Coleman or McCarthy.

The Whelan/Andrews partnership has been crucial to two very successful campaigns now.

I'll take good results over fancy creative football any day, well at least in qualifying, and probably in the Euro's themselves.

As for the squad itself, Trap will bring 5 forwards, no question. He likes to change things around up front, particiurarly if a game is slipping away from Ireland.

And Cox will definitely be in the squad, so that's Walters, Doyle, Long, Cox and Keane as forwards.

Yep, the WC in 2002. Think the jersey was first worn in the win over the dutch and it was the same jersey worn in the WC the following summer except with something like "World Cup 2002" embroidered under the crest.

Past replica shirts there without a sponsor if you're prepared to pay.

Well my view on it, romantic and naive as it might be, is that while United and Liverpool are clubs/businesses which can be bought and owned, the Irish national team, like other national sides, ought to be viewed as belonging to the people and not something that could have a price put on it.

Sadly we live in what is seemingly one of the most apathetic places in Europe and so we've a team with a shirt sponsor on it, our historic Lansdowne Road name has now changed to the Aviva (puke) Stadium and the other night we had green placard signs given to the fans which had the '3' sponsor logo on it , in what I thought was a new low for lousy commercial tactics.

If we have to have a sponsor why not have it be something worthy like Trocaire or Temple Street on the front. The sponsorship status quo is a testament to the greed and selfishness of the FAI, which is itself simply a by-product of the greed and selfishness of this country the last 15 or so years.

Opel has been on the front of fans replica shirts since the mid-80s.

Lansdowne Road was owned exclusively by the IRFU. The FAI only (gratefully) rented the dump.

I don't blame the FAI one bit for having logos on front of their shirts or the Lansdowne road stadium sponsorship.

There are plenty of decent polos without massive "3" logos on them.

Of course, people can always boycott (a true Irish tradition) the jersey with sponsorship on it and it'll force the FAI to give in.

The shirt I want is there, even the nicer looking long-sleeve top also, but £70? Hmm, tempting but I doubt it, maybe if I've ever got money to spare.

Anyone know if the site is reliable?

How many games in the last campaign did Whelan actually do well? The second leg against Estonia was the only time I finished watching thinking 'yeah, Whelan had a decent game tonight'. I don't rate him in that role...Andrews isn't great either but at he brings height, a physical presence and more likely to shoot. You can have an impact on a game despite being limited - Uruguay's central midfielders at the 2010 WC, Diego Perez and Egidio Arevalo are a prime example of how players with modest careers can do a good job.

Dunno why everyone's giving out about the sponsors. Surely if we get more money from them it'll mean we can afford to buy better players in the next transfer window ;)

I've bought stuff off the site before, it's 100% reliable.

Of course if you have some old jerseys you don't want any more, they may take them off you and knock down the price of the shirt you want in exchange.

Best bet is to take some good pics of any old shirts assuming there are one or more you'd get rid of and mail them the pics.

    http://faireland.posterous.com/fixtures-announced-for-world-cup-brazil-2014-24719
The Football Association of Ireland today (November 18) announced that it has reached agreement on fixtures for UEFA qualification Group C for the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014.

In order to reach final agreement, the participating teams agreed to play one match, Faroe Islands v Austria in early June 2012. This proposal has been supported by UEFA.

Ireland’s fixtures for the group were agreed at the headquarters of the DFB in Frankfurt as follows:

    September 7, 2012

    Kazakhstan v Republic of Ireland

    October 12, 2012

    Republic of Ireland v Germany

    October 16, 2012
Faroe Islands v Republic of Ireland

    March 22, 2013

    Sweden v Republic of Ireland

    March 26, 2013

    Republic of Ireland v Austria

    June 7, 2013

Republic of Ireland v Faroe Islands

    September 6, 2013

    Republic of Ireland v Sweden

    September 10, 2013

    Austria v Republic of Ireland

    October 11, 2013

    Germany v Republic of Ireland

    October 15, 2013

    Republic of Ireland v Kazakhstan

Was hoping we'd be play Austria and Germany back to back. Pity but I'll definitely be heading over for the Germany away game.

    Think we just miss Oktoberfest.

I reckon Germany will be home and dry by that stage. Ourselves, Austria and Sweden will probably take a lot of points off each other, giving Germany a bit of breathing space.

Yeah, even if we got 4 points off the Germans (which I can't see to begin with).....you just can't see us being more consistent than them in the other games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,889 ✭✭✭tolosenc

Was just thinking... Away to Kazakhstan is a bit of an inauspicious start to life as European Champions, no? :P

noodler, literally the only hope we have of finishing above Germany is a score draw away and a scoreless (or score-fewer) draw at home. And then beat Sweden twice, and then the other 3 twice...

Is it too soon to be working out permutations of who we could possibly meet in the playoffs?? ;)

That could very well be true but Germany, to me, dont seem like the kind of team to sit back and let the game pass them by because they already qualified. I reckon they would want at the very least a draw but more likely the win to help them in the world rankings a little.
