I had a dreambox but left it back because it didn't have a rf which would have meant i would have had to have wires traling from the tv to the box.

I was told I should just buy a TM500? It doesen't have to be in Ireland

ok, i dont know how clued up you are but that 500 is now got super added, go here and it looks quite a good deal, http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/Technomate-TM500-Super but check about postage. it has rf out. with all tv's moving to hd it may be a better option to get hd but if money us tight then this is ideal and got great reviews for pic quality.

How are you going to connect the box to the tv without cable?

use the existing sky box cables or are there speciel connections to prevent you from doing this?. The cables are in the attic and go into the back of the sky box. I'll be using the TM as a second box. Heres a few photos.

You'd be far better off using a better quality connection than modulated UHF, even for standard def. Certainly not worth letting this setup dictate your choice of receiver.

I'd be only using it as a second box anyway as long as I can use the existing sky connections I dont mind.

Its 89quid with satboxes.com so I think i'll be ordering it from there.

You must be very attached to this particular layout so I won't ask why you don't just have the 2nd box in the sitting room with the other tv . . .

Because it has to be close to the router and I dont want wires trailing.

Understandable, wasn't really thinking along those lines tbh.

With options like powerline ethernet adapters(About €40) or a wifi bridge(@€;15)
The box can be placed anywhere convenient really.
No need to limit yourself to just near the router.

Yeah I had a DB500S but I had to leave it back beacause it didn't have RF which meant I would have had wires trailing everywhere at least with this i'll be able to use my existing sky cables etc.

james. i think you may have misunderstood an rf modulator when i explained it to you. it doesnt mean any extra cables to the tv. you still use the existing cable coming from the rf out on your sky box. the only addition was the modulator. the technomate 500 has an inbuilt modulator and the box only needs 1 input from the dish.

How much would that cost? I'd rather not spend a fortune because i'd just be using it as a second box like.
