While he was/is not the only war crimes leader that should be prosecuted (had he lived), he certainly does not warrant a celebration of his life or a commemoration.

It won't be attended by the liberators, because they'll be down in Rathkeale looking for the cash that got lifted from one of them recently.

Two words for the price of one in the grammar-nazi pre-Christmas sale.

The definition seems harsh, but fair.

its probably being organised by left wing republicans. I'm sure there will be plenty of Palestinian flags and celtic jerseys on show.

    How many world leaders do?

Neither is he the only one responsible for war crimes. The only difference being that some of these leaders (particularly some notable leaders from the west) will receive commemorations and will be spoken of in glowing terms

That post on Indymedia mentions "noble patriots" and signs off in Irish - I smell Republican Sinn Fein or possibly Eirigi.

Hardly surprising. Much like the Tunisians, the Libyans are now left wondering why nothing has changed in their countries and who their new leaders really are, some pro-Western folk who jetted in to Tripoli only after it was safe to do so.

I bet the Guards are waxing their truncheons in readiness for the ceremony.

I always liked Libyas old flag, can we take it now seeing as they're not using it any more? Or at least stake a claim to it, so no-one else can use it untill we get around to changing our flag? It'd be nice for a 32 county republic

I wonder will there be the same set of objections should some Americans decide to hold a memorial for Bush ?

Don't get me wrong - I think this is a disgusting - but they're entitled to it.

The objections I have are ones where we have to foot the bill for some low-life, like Haughey or Ahern, just so that their supporters can pretend that they were decent folk.

It's a treacherous pastime is being a grammar Nazi. I'm never quite sure whether to admire, detest, or feel sorry for grammar Nazis.

It's an open secret that Muammar Gaddafi used 75% of Libya's oil production in the making of personal hair products.

A commemorative turnout in Ireland for the patron saint of motorists, how quaint.

His oily skin and oily hair were his trade marks.

Lads we're getting massively off topic here. This is supposed to be a thread honouring the life and times of Muammar Gaddafi.

If you look at the explanation of 'grammar Nazi' it expressly includes the correcting of spellings.

    Your pedantry is tiresome Sir.

I will be at rest now.

It was held by a small number of socialists and republicans.

As far as I know it was organized by individuals and not any republican or socialist group. Incidentally the vast majority of socialists and republicans I know don't share the pro Gadaffi sentiments held by those who organized todays event.

legend RIP Colonel Gaddafi you died so we can live :)

speaks about Ireland's right to freedom from British rule.
In 1921 the British government divided Ireland against the wishes of the Irish people who wanted complete Independence from the UK.

I might, I always was a fan of Gaddafi, especially his version of "Black Magic Woman". Really knew how to sling a six stringer.

Probably organised by the Shinners, as in a 'thank you' for the guns and money over the years.

Finally someone in this country decides to hold a commemoration for one of the greatest leaders of modern times. Resisted with the people of Sirte when they were under severe bombardment and without any supplies in a siege that lasted two months. While rebels bombed from all sides and NATO bombed from above the resistance was extremely brave from Gaddafi and armed civilians and army alike, it was when the ammunition has completely ran out that they attempted to flee to Gaddafi's fate.

you do know how much good he done in the muslim world as a mediator and got nations who we couldn't even imagine dealing with or hearing about but got them to sign the treaty of Tripoli, thus saving countless innocent lives.

theirs 2 sides to the coin... i guess whoever holds it shows the prettier side...
