Illegal Downloading Your thing??

My question is this do you download allot of music, movies or other software quite frequently illegally or would you tend to try and download more often legally. Give reasons as well. The two main reasons I often here for both sides are:

Illegal Downloading: The music and film industry are two big and to powerful, downloading a few songs wont affect their profits, plus those industries need to change.

Legal: I try and support my favorite artists so I download legally, plus those industries especially the music industry are facing a massive decline in sales resulting in music labels not backing new artists anymore and sticking with current well established artists.

And what do you think needs to change for you to stop downloading illegally or for other to stop downloading illegally.

Isn't it illegal to share the media, and not to download it. I don't seed anything anyway and don't ever download music.

Movies, well, I've said too much.

I download all the time but it's more of a try before you buy kinda thing as if somethings crap I just erase it and never think of it again whereas if I DL something and it's good I'll go and buy the item.

I once downloaded the internet back in the late 90's. Of course the internet was a lot smaller than it is today but connection speeds were much slower so it took approximately 4 years to complete.

I think its only illegal to distribute copyrighted movies, music etc.. for profit or gain.

well that's just ridiculous. Here's a free car that you can keep. Oh I like it, here's 20k.

I download almost all my music illegally. I started back when albums were 20euro a pop and a single would be 10 euro in shops. I figured the prices were just too high. Now with Itunes (Which I hate!!!) making things a little cheaper it is hard to justify my piracy. But I don't lose sleep about it because I know all involved in making the music are all much much richer than I will ever be.

Now Software I would tend to buy the ones that I would be using day to day. But I would normally use freeware as it is less restrictive eg. OpenOffice.

Games however I would never pirate because I believe that if you shop smart you will always get your moneys worth and those involved really care about there fans. (Valve!!)

Content needs to become cheap enough, and accessible enough for piracy to become a waste of time.

Services like Rdio, Zune Pass, and Spotify are examples of doing it right. I would be totally happy to pay €10 a month for unlimited music. They've already proven to be successful strategies in the US. Sadly, there's not much of an equivalent here.

I'm an Eircom customer, and if they bothered to make a phone app, and a desktop program for their MusicHub, I'd happily use it all the time. But they don't seem to have any interest in making the service good.

There's so much demand it simply has to happen. Surely people are working on it...

Used to be a bugger for downloading. Last Easter, I promised my wife I would stop. Didn't happen fully though. However, I am making more of an effort by subscribing to Eircom Music Hub. I also use iTunes as well. If Netflix comes in, and when I get a telly that streams from the net directly, I will use it, and won't download illegally anymore. Hopefully Xtravision will bring in a similar online service so that the money will stay in Ireland at least

I don't do it on an industrial level like those people who may or may not have given me terrabyte hard drives of movies, but I may or may not have gotten the odd film from time to time when I was at a lose end.

Considering the scale of corruption and the complete lack of a moral compass in our society that has brought us to ruin, I can sleep easily having downloaded an aul fúckin film. Thats if I did download one at all.

I download a lot but I think a system like radiohead used where you could pay the price you want to pay for it would be preferable. I think music is overvalued to be honest.
