    https://www.facebook.com/notes/house/announcement-from-house-executive-producers-david-shore-katie-jacobs-and-hugh-la/10151255426885713
Announcement from HOUSE Executive Producers David Shore, Katie Jacobs and Hugh Laurie, as well as a statement from Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.

After much deliberation, the producers of House M.D. have decided that this season of the show, the 8th, should be the last. By April this year they will have completed 177 episodes, which is about 175 more than anyone expected back in 2004.

The decision to end the show now, or ever, is a painful one, as it risks putting asunder hundreds of close friendships that have developed over the last eight years - but also because the show itself has been a source of great pride to everyone involved.

Since it began, House has aspired to offer a coherent and satisfying world in which everlasting human questions of ethics and emotion, logic and truth, could be examined, played out, and occasionally answered. This sounds like fancy talk, but it really isn’t. House has, in its time, intrigued audiences around the world in vast numbers, and has shown that there is a strong appetite for television drama that relies on more than prettiness or gun play.

But now that time is drawing to a close. The producers have always imagined House as an enigmatic creature; he should never be the last one to leave the party. How much better to disappear before the music stops, while there is still some promise and mystique in the air.

The producers can never sufficiently express their gratitude to the hundreds of dedicated artists and technicians who have given so generously of their energy and talent to make House the show it has been - and perhaps will continue to be for some time, on one cable network or another.

The makers of House would also like to thank Fox Broadcasting and Universal Television for supporting the show with patience, imagination and large quantities of good taste. The Studio-As-Evil-Adversary is one of the many clichés that House has managed to avoid, and for that the cast and crew are deeply grateful.

Lastly, the audience: some have come and some have gone, obviously. This is to be expected in the life of any show. But over the course of the last eight years, the producers of House have felt immensely honored to be the subject of such close attention by an intelligent, discriminating, humane and thoughtful - not to mention numerous - audience. Even the show's detractors have been flattering in their way. Making the show has felt like a lively and passionate discussion about as many different subjects as could possibly be raised in 177 hours. The devotion and generosity of our viewers has been marvelous to behold.

So, finally, everyone at House will bid farewell to the audience and to each other with more than a few tears, but also with a deep feeling of gratitude for the grand adventure they have been privileged to enjoy for the last eight years. If the show lives on somewhere, with somebody, as a fond memory, then that is a precious feat, of which we will always be proud.

    Everybody Lies.

STATEMENT FROM KEVIN REILLY, PRESIDENT, ENTERTAINMENT, FOX BROADCASTING COMPANY:
While it’s with much regret, and a lump in our throats, we respect the decision Hugh, David and Katie have made. A true original, on the page and amazingly brought to life by Hugh Laurie, there is only one Dr. House. For eight seasons, the entire HOUSE team has given us – and fans around the world – some of the most compelling characters and affecting stories ever seen on television. They have been creatively tenacious and collaborative throughout this incredible run, and they are amongst the most superior talents in the business. For all the above, we wholeheartedly thank them, and the fans who have supported the show.

I guess we all saw it coming, but I'll still be sad when it ends.

Didn't realise you were a fan. :) 8 years is a long run for a procedural and they stopped growing the characters a good while ago, but hopefully they'll do something worthwhile in the final batch of episodes.

    Great show.
I hope they get to wrap it up with some good conclusions.

    So Fry to guest star?
    House to kill himself?
    Kill 13?
    Back to prison?
Happy ever after with Cuddy? (god no!)
    Go gay with Wilson?
    Drug overdose?
    House gets Lupus?

I hope we don't hear the line 'The only one who could cure him is himself'

Him and Wilson riding of into the sunset is the only way this should end.

I take it this season has already finished shooting? If so this news means it could end on a cliff hanger expecting the next season to continue it along.

Not surprising, great show down the years but it has gone totally flat this season.

Throwing House into a relationship with Cuddy was always going to be a huge risk, and it always had to culminate with them breaking up. While this was indeed their plan, their piss poor execution of that story arc killed the show.

The break up was out of the blue, the Cuddy cancer scare was a bit of a cop out and her figuring out that House took vicodin based on interpreting her own dreams was massively irrational for a show which spends so much time preaching about rationality.

Don't get me started on crashing the car into Cuddy's house. If you're looking for a "Jump the shark" moment that was it, quite literally car crash television.

-Season 8 has been very flat, the House/Cuddy scenes are a big loss, (with the sexual tension issue dealt with we could have gone back to the House/Cuddy scenes of the first few seasons).
-Foreman as chief is alright but he was better as one of Houses team members,
-Chase; not very interesting, been there, done that, same old Chase sucking up to House all the time. Though that may change from what I've most recently seen but he still seems a bit irrelevant.
    -Taub; yawn. Who cares?
-Dr.Adams; Ok, Odette Annable is a VERY attractive woman; I can't help but feel that that was the only reason she was hired. "No more 13, no more Cuddy, we need some eye candy, stat" Cameron mkII, except a bit less annoying and a bit more pretty and a bit more boring.
-Dr.Park; This character doesn't interest me, seems a bit pointless.
-There has been a disappointing shortage of House/Wilson scenes this season.

Hopefully, now that the writers have an end date they will give the show the send off it deserves, because at its peak it was brilliant.

My biggest hope now is that maybe, just maybe Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry will work together again, I'd love another season of "A Bit of Fry and Laurie":D

No, definitely hasn't finished shooting - they have plenty of time to wrap everything up...
And since this was a decision by the House crew themselves and not Fox, no doubt they know what their ending will be...

Yep, big fan, I just don't post here much :). I'm hoping for a solid run of episodes for the remainder of the season now.

Gonna be sad to see it go, at one point it was absolute must watch tv, excellently written and acted. The time is definitely right for it to go though, just hope it goes the way it deserves to go. In a blaze of glory!

It's the weakest series in a while. You could definitely feel the end coming.

As for how they might end it... I hope it's not a happy ending.

The whole thing of House's character is that he never changes. He always ends up going back to his self-destructive ways. And I feel like a series ending like that, where he alienates everyone for good this time, would be the most fitting. Even if it's painful for the audience

Nope, that doc stopped making the drugs when the rats started getting tumours which led to one of the best scenes in the history of House, the self leg surgery

The last couple of seasons haven't been great (imho) and it's time to let the show end.
I enjoyed seasons 1-5/6 of this programme SO much. It was the best thing I'd seen on TV in years.
Hope it goes out on a high!

    (..well a 'House high'.. a low??) :confused::o

Just for laughs, the last case should definitely result in a final diagnosis of lupus.

Although that is/was a running gag they did actually have a lupus patient in the fourth season episode "You don’t want to know"

I was thinking this as well. But can't remember whether it lupus was the final diagnosis or (as usual) one of the ones that got mentioned by later shot down.

Somehow I missed finding out Season 8 had started on Sky One so just tuned into whistle-blower. Was not impressed with new Characters. They just seem carbon cut outs of 13 and what was the red haired one called? They should have ended it last year. Its terribly dull.
