Contemplating selling the DC5 later on in the year. (Under certain circumstances but may not happen.)

If I do decide to sell, I want something different. TBH I really want to be back in an Impreza but I'm open to all suggestions.

Budget of 10k. Either all on a car or some and then the rest for petrol.

Current mileage will be cut in half btw if I sell.

    GO!

E46 M3, what a beautiful car with good German build quality. You can pick up cheap ones for about 7k and then you have a spare three grand for repairs and petrol:p

That straight six is the nicest sound of any non-super car sound in my opinion.

Why sell? Is your DC5 worth 10k? If you want to upgrade spend some money on your DC5 if it is a good quality example.

I can't see the point in spending money to get away from a fine vehicle if you are doing half the mileage (I am assuming you are doing low enough mileage as it is).

Depends what you are looking for. More comfort? Power? Engine type?

I know I have linked this car here a few times but I really think that if it is the genuine thing that is some car for the money. Well within budget, a real sleeper and would frighten a Scooby or two.

These aren't exactly Impreza territory but they are different!

Maybe something like this? You'll get your 50 for petrol aswell ;) :P

That Lotus is a bit old so something newer again?

IMO get an E46 m3, csl if possible.

** disclaimer druNkness may have influenced this post but what an epic chassis and refined engine.

You won't get next or near a CSL for €10k, even double that won't get you a CSL.
While e46 M3 is a nice car there's a lot of dog rough ones out there sub-€10k. There's a few guys over on BMW-Druver.net that literally spent months looking for a good M3. They found it tough to find a good one, never mind sun-€10k.

Was going to post the exact same thing. Lots of poorly maintained M3 for cheap money these days & the bills are huge if they are not looked after.

I'm fairly sure someone posted this before but here go's!

    With change for the tax!

Found this M3 on bmw-driver forum. First impressions are good, would need to be checked over by current/former owner of an M3 to be sure its decent and had proper servicing.

The, what looks like a panel beaters, in the background, combined with a really clean looking car would put me off big time.

Are you bored of dc5? Is the change bug is bitting?

Well, theres a good value to be gotten on scoobies out there. With 10k you can get a lovely wrx.

Are you looking for another performance car? Or maybe have a luxo barge for a change? You can get a lovely lovely gs300 or 740i for 2-3k and them buy 3 years tax in advance ;)

Doing silly mileage in it at the min. Must be about 800km a week. It's already got a couple of upgrades.

VRT is a low low €3600. :pac:

Just an itch tbh. Not bored of the DC5 anyway. Never fails to give me a smile. I'll definitely want a luxobarge in the future. For now strung out performance cars will do. :pac:

Then again, a modern big power diesel could be an option if I can make it sound non-diesel :D

You would still buy it and clear it for around €7.5k. It probably cost it's original owner €40k+ 6 years ago.

If the Dc5 is crippling you're pocket on fuel the MPS will be worse!!

Okay one more try: BMW m5! :D

If you're doing that kind of mileage and a DC5 is crippling you, any form of fast Skooby, Evo, MPS, or otherwise performance car isn't going to be any better....

It's a diesel you need if you want to change unfortunately. Any other decision and your DC5 is the best option there.

No I can afford the petrol bill at the minute. Just the roads I drive on are shíte so it's a pain in the face.

This is why it's all a maybe. If I start doing less miles maybe I'll get to enjoy it more.

I can't put my finger on it but it just feels like there's something missing.

How the hell can you afford 500 miles a week in a Dc5?

Take out the coilovers then and go back standard!! Problem solved.

Not only that, but the ride quality in most of the other cars above isn't gonna be any better.....

Partly because I've an easy foot and partly because it can be quite easy on the juice sometimes. It's possible to get 360 miles out of a full tank.

Could be the coilovers, only one way to find out!

Alas, I'll be selling the DC5 sooner than I thought. Criteria has changed though. Something frugal(ish) will be needed. If it's a diesel, it can't sound like a diesel. :pac:

If nothing I like comes up, I'm going to get a motorbike.

The only diesels that sound like diesels in my experience are the larger ones, the M57 in the 530d, jag/ford 2.7 in the disco, rrs, jag etc

Actually, the 530d is a great car to drive and ours used to give 45ish rural.

Marlow's 525d touring sounds epic. Nothing like a diesel unless you saw the rev counter. :D

Preferably want to stay petrol though. Never like diesel. Smelly, noisy. Blegh.

Theres not really an in between though. You should get a petrol and forget about MPG or get a nice powerful diesel.

A very clean E46 330d could be gotten for half your budget or a really nice E60 530d for your full budget. Both will be cheaper to run than the DC5 even when taking the big tax increase into account.

I think some test drives are in order.
