How is Madigan not on that list?

Was thinking the same thing, would have him ahead of Weir, no question.

Madigans lack of kicking is the only reason I can see, he's scored more tries than he has penalties this season.

Can't remember what I put in for the competition but I think I had that exact backline with Madigan at 10. Silly that he isn't in there really. From reading that article Madigan and Weir got the same number of votes but Weir won because of his "better scoring record" - i.e. the fact he kicks!

I had a monstrously different pack though, but I quite like the look of that one.

It was also tight at outside half, where Glasgow Warriors' Duncan Weir just pipped Leinster's Ian Madigan for the No 10 jersey after both players received four votes. In the end, Weir's superior scoring record earned him the half-back berth alongside Pienaar.

Madigan's lack of kicking cost him the place

Daft, considering his try-scoring record, and the fact that Piennar is a kicking machine (if the team was to actually play). When Madigans has kicked, he has been pretty successful.

Players are selected on a per-position basis and ties in voting are decided on points scored. Weir has scored more points than Madigan this season.

Madigan's kicking has been ok, but certainly nothing to write home about.

Jesus Pienaar/Madigan would be a terrifying halfback pairing.

Probably because he simply hasn't kicked. The one game he started without Sexton, Ferg and Isa also starting, he got 5 of his 6 penalties all season.

Lol at reason given by RD site. Superior goal scoring was the reason Weir got in? So you aren't the best 10 if you don't take the place kicks, even if 3 of your team mates are on the Golden Boot leader Board? (well, was 3 until McFaddens collapse of kicking!)

Madigan has been outstanding, probably Leinsters player of the season in the Pro12.

ties in all positions are decided by scoring record. Madigan was tied in votes with Weir but Weir got in by his scoring record. Well done to Madigan on tieing to get into the team.

    Does it really matter?

I think that honour should go to Toner, and im slightly surprised he didn't make the team.

Also appears VdM lost out to Welsh at loose-head because of his inferior try scoring record...

Whatever about Weir, I wouldn't have Morgan in the team.

    3 Glasgow Warriors
    2 Leinster
    2 Edinburgh
    2 Cardiff Blues
    2 Ospreys
    2 Ulster
    1 Scarlets
    1 Munster

  • Pos Pts DreamTeam Names
    1 Leinster Rugby 77 2 Nacewa - Strauss
    2 Ospreys 67 2 Beck - Tipuric
    3 Munster Rugby 62 1 Botha
    4 Glasgow Warriors 61 3 Weir - Ryder - Welsh
    5 Scarlets 57 1 Morgan
    6 Ulster Rugby 56 2 Tuohy - Pienaar
    7 Cardiff Blues 50 2 Laulala - Cuthbert
    8 Connacht Rugby 37
    9 Benetton Treviso 36
    10 Newport Gwent Dragons 35
    11 Edinburgh Rugby 27 2 Denton - Visser
    12 Aironi Rugby 21

Court not getting the LH spot is a bit of a joke tbh.

Visser is way too good for Edinburgh and Coughlan deserves the 8 spot ahead of Morgan.

Tipuric has been brilliant for Ospreys and deserves his place. So unfortunate that Warburton is only a year older than him. Would love to see both travel with the Lions.

Good luck with that. I see a Leinster/Os final and the Welsh to win it again. Whens the last time Leinster beat Ospreys?

Last season, at the RDS. But they do have the measure of Leinster alright, would not be confident about playing them at all.

i'd be more worried about the semifinal tbh. Glasgow are no mugs and Leinster might have one eye on the following weeks match...

The last time they played them last season.... and they lost to them twice this season, the first being the first game of the season, when Leinster fielded a second string team as no Irish international players (including squad members) were available, and they lost the return fixture with a very hotly contested result, as Leinster were disallowed a try that pictures show were definitely down, and then lost by a point to a late try and where the conversion hit the top of the bar (thus going "through" the post and not in between them, and was the same reason Nigel Owens cited for disallowing Leinsters penalty against Clermont, which the TMO agreed went over the bar and not through....so shouldn't have been a score in O's game either...but I digress...)

They are our bogey team, no doubt, but I think we'd beat them if we played them in the final.

In the Magners/Rabo they have the edge on us they've P8 W4 L3 D1. How many of those were full strength teams I don't know but certainly in the away HEC game this season that was a tough game.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,549 ✭✭✭✭Judgement Day

Leinster vs Ospreys in the final I reckon, with Leinster to win. With all Munster's injury problems the away semi against Ospreys is a monumental ask. I hope I'm wrong as back to back 'All Irish' finals would be some achievement.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 18,294 Mod ✭✭✭✭CatFromHue

In both the HEC and the Rabo Glasgow and The Ospreys have lost the same amount of games, have the same amount of LB points, and Ospreys have only one more TB point!

I'm actually a bit surprised by that!

Leinster led all game but had two injured THs and had to play McGrath there which left Leinster being murdered in scrums. To only lose by a point in that circumstance wasn't a bad showing imo.
