I'm looking for recommendations for somewhere to buy a few days deer stalking for next season.

    Preferably Fallow or Red.

    Not into trophies.

    Cull shooting would be fine.

Have my own rifle & insurance.

I have permission on lands in Roscommon for fallow and would have no problem bringing you out for a day . Hence the reason for asking where your from to see if the distance isn't to great .

Explain how ? He looking to pay for a days shooting . I was offering to invite him down to shoot . I'm not interested in charging , and he doesn't want to shoot for free . Nothing strange about it

I appreciate you're offer but politely declined because.................

As stated I do not have a NPWS permit and so therefore if I go with you and shoot a deer I am in breech of the law and if I/we are challenged by someone/a game ranger then I and/or both of us would/could loose our firearms licenses if convicted of hunting without the proper permit. As I said I ain't a poacher ;)

You still need an NPWS permit regardless of whether you are paying or not. This permit needs to be applied for by you, not the person you're going shooting with. Regardless of whether or not the person you're going to pay to bring you stalking has a permit you're the one pulling the trigger therefore you're the one that needs the permit.

And, somebody correct me if I'm wrong here: You'll also need a license for whatever firearm you intend on using.

What has this to do with my original question?

Did I ask any of this?

Has it occurred to you that I may know all this?

And as you're so worried  I do have a valid firearms certificate for my rifle.

No need for the roll eyes at all.

In fairness it has everything to do with your original question considering you're the one banging on about staying within the law.

The law is that you must have a valid deer stalking permit issued by the NPWS to stalk or shoot deer, regardless of who's hand you'll be holding, paying money for your shooting doesn't put you past the law.

Don't come on asking questions unless you want answers. You obviously only want to hear what you want and not what you need.

Oh yes there is and you're latest contribution just reinforces why it's needed!
    E. Fudd wrote: »

My original question was asking poeple to recommend someone who, for want of a better description, "sells" deer stalking.

    Did I ask about permits?

Has it still not occurred to you that I know what you're telling me?

Do you always assume you know more than people you "talk" to?

I know what the law is! I probably even know more than you. But that's another story ;)

And where in your "answers" do you answer my question?

    EXACTLY ;)

You sated that an NPWS permit would have to be sorted by the vendor. All I'd did was try to outline the legalities as I made the assumption that if you were in the know about the legalities you wouldn't have been asking for somebody to sort something for you that you could only do yourself.

Yet again you show you're ignorance

Answer my question or refrain from posting!

If you know everything u need , then you should know where to find stalking ! Use google like a normal person but don't come on ere ask for advice and then ****ting on the people that try to help you ! Cheek of you . Don't post a question if ya really don't want ans !

Your own bull jizz has got you to this point !

So, can anyone actually answer the question I asked?

What you're looking for is not legally available. You want the vendor to "sort" your NPWS permit. Only YOU can sort out the NPWS permit.

Please don't come back to me with your " answer the question " statements. I'm simply trying to explain to you that what you're looking for is not obtainable.

you might aswel agree with him because he is right.
You need a NPWS deer stalking permit with the serial number of the rifle you will be using on it.

Someone else can't go and get you a permit, and yes you did say the vendor would have to sort out the permit
BTW, I meant to say in the OP that I do not have a NPWS permit so that will have to be sorted by the vendor.

So people are giving you the proper legal advice instead of what you are looking for.

In order to sort a deer licence from the NPWS it would be necessary for the vendor as the holder of the sporting rights to the land to write a letter for him giving him permission to hunt deer on this land along with the portfolio numbers if there are any for the land.

He can then submit his application along with this letter to the NPWS.

    That is how its done.

Would you not still run into the problem of 2 many permissions per head of deer on land

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 384 ✭✭mrbrianj

Guys selling stalking will sort out forms and info required for npws permits. Clients may have to sign the forms but I am sure thats not going to be so much hassle!!

As for stalking recommendation, I can't personally make any, but the Hcap is organised for overseas guys coming in buying a few days during the winter( only march to sept for the rest of us) so maybe Hcap may point you in the right direction of some professional stalkers.

The problem of too many permissions per head of deer on land ? Never heard of it. I think and I am only surmising that if you hold the sporting rights to say 40 acres in the heart of Wicklow and you start issuing letters of permission to say 20 hunters someone in the NPWS is possibly going to raise an eyebrow.

However if you had 3000 acres of stalking and issued 10 or 15 letters of permission I dont think any of TPTB would get overly interested after possibly an initial query.

Have I got this right ? Please correct me if I am wrong but are you saying that overseas hunters have to sit the HCAP ? They sit down somewhere,do the written test and then troop off to the Midland Rifle Range to shoot their targets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 384 ✭✭mrbrianj

That was the case last season alright. I tried to look it up but the site has changed. Small number of guys did a mcq & range test not advertised on the deer alliance web site, they explained after it was organised to facilitate overseas visitors.

Fair enough for a pro organising group stalking trips I suppose.

Don't know where the range test was carried out, iirc mcq was in Laragh, the results were up on the website before
