this album really is for those that are stuck in the 90s. Thank f*ck the veterans are still going, very few that get me buzzing these days.:D

those that are stuck in the 90s.

That's me! :D even though i cant remember the 90s lol.

I'm gonna have to give this album a spin later on, in the mean time i have 30 or so hip hop albums my aunty gave me earlier.

I am so happy to hear this. This could be my favourite album that I've heard so far this year. I thought The Recipe was my favourite track of the year, but this is so much better, for me.

true that, i predicted this from hearing the snipps a few weeks ago that this was a candidate for album of the year lol. Incredible album, the best i heard period since WTT and i dont think im over-reacting in saying that either.

good shout on the instrumentals, the start of queens story is just quality.

Andy hamiltons a beast especially on hooks for hip hop songs. Queens story is fast becoming my favorite. The only track i dont like is the one with rick ross and not because i dont like ross, genuineally cant get into it.

I came into this album not expecting much, I'm happy to say that I'm pleasantly surprised :)

A Queens Story sounds like a movie score, awesome stuff

There's a few duds on here, but this is Nas' best album since God's Son

My iTunes pre-order dropped over night. Still busy listening to Channel Orange to listen to it yet tho (this and Oddisee's new album which has gotten good reviews. Seems good from a cursory listen).

FYI Channel Orange also on iTunes (unless your one of those old school "physical copy" types).

It's exceptionally good, Oddisee and Mello Music Group are where its at. Got a physical copy of Oddisee the other day and was delighted.

Looking forward to the new Nas album, what i've heard so far has been really good. Beats are the main reason why this sounds better than other albums in recent times. Nas has been always consistent lyrically, but not so much on the production side of things. This seems to be a turning point.

Yea, gave a few songs a spin yesterday and was impressed. Still love the Diamond District album, can't wait for the new one.

I hate when too many good albums drop around the same time. I'm still trying to catch up on the Big Krit and Currensy albums as well. Won't have time to truly appreciate any of them for a bit!

Was I the only one who loved Nas' last few albums? Hip-Hop is dead and the Nigga album were brilliant in my book (especially HHID).

I havent held much in his last couple of albums, he was just using terrible beats imo. His only albums i can listen to fully through are illmatic, it was written, stillmatic, the lost tapes and gods son. the rest of them are just plain boringness if you ask me.

channel orange is very good, found it great to listen to when chilling or winding down in the night. Pink matter litrally turned me into an over-night fan.

I never bother with pre-ordering , i just top up my account with the itune top up cards but il be splashing out on a 50 euro card on monday, plan on buying nas's and ocean's albums both of them should keep me ticking over for the rest of the summer.

I use to be a cd man but here in waterford we only have golden discs and they are cat for hip hop/r'n'b so i just got used to itunes, its handy with iphone and ipod all the same though.
I'm still trying to catch up on the Big Krit

I had every intention of buying that album but i only ended up buying 2 or 3 songs of it, wasnt really impressed that much by it.

Banging some Gang Starr (just starting to listen to them, long overdue), then I'm tearing into this album. Excited from the reports

(-1, I wanted to see just 1 premo beat;))

This is available on iTunes Ireland now (probably known, US had it pre-order only though)

Was hoping for lyrics in the digital booklet.

Only 9 features and Ross is one of them?!

Damn the temptation to go out and top my iTunes in the morning , was going to wait til next week.

Ye the song ft officer Ross and maybe Summer on smash ft Swiss beats are my only negatives about the album.

Really have fallen out of love with the Swiss beat sound , use to love his work with X and the ruff ryders but his sound is just too repetitive for me these days. Acidental murders ft Ross , I just cant get into and Ross doesn't help the matter either. Clearly a commercial move from nasty to have that clown on it but still a very very good album.

The album is all over the internet for streaming or download, you could always buy it next week.

Only reason I bought it is because I was changing over cards on my account and ended up buying it as I always like Nas stuff (all his albums, all of them) so I knew it would be worth it.

True, I'm Listining to via YouTube ATM. I'm the same as you, I like buying rappers I like music if it's good.

Id always buy someone like nas's music if I like it, fair enough I havnt got the majority of nas's albums because I personally feel they wernt good enough as a whole to buy. (we've been through that though). Like any album these days if I like it via Listining to a stream etc I will go out and support it aswell craving proper CD/digital quality and booklets etc.

It's a good thing in a way , the Internet lets us sample what we are going to buy before handing over 10 to 20 buck for an album !. Back in my cd days , I got stung on quite a few sh*ty albums that I bought based on someone's name or a successful single or two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,821 ✭✭✭floggg

I just used to return them if they were crap. Always bought in HMV and never had any trouble doing so

Enjoyed this album immensely, got one listen through last night before falling asleep. It is going to take a few listens to mark stand out tracks, at the moment I'm in love with Track 9 -You Wouldn't Understand (feat. Victoria Monet), the beat just made me smile instantly.

This cd is definitely going in the car today.

Great album, only had a quick listen just now but it's my favorite album of the year so far, have yet to listen to Channel Orange but travelling for a couple of days next week so I'll have a chance to listen to them both properly then.

Been listening to this for the last few days. cant stop playing it. Really is a top notch album from Nasty Nas!

    Stand out tracks so far:
    No introduction
    A queenz story
    World's An Addiction
    Back When
    Bye bye baby

If anyones interested in meaning behind some of the rhymes you should check this out. Nas has setup an account with them and is explaining some of the verses. I browse this website a lot its very good.

Struggling to get into it. Can't see what all the hype is about. Which is weird because I'm normally the one loving Nas albums that everybody hates.

I think the new Oddisee's album beats it hands down

It is a good album but it is not better than Childish Gambinos Royalty for example imo. Not regretting buying it, but not getting played a lot.

Did you buy the normal version or the deluxe ? The bonus songs on the deluxe are quality. I love the album, so many standout tracks , daughters, queens story, back when, trust etc.

I bought it today along with distant relatives which I only had bits of, also bought channel orange.

Listened to childish gambino a while back when a thread was started here about him but I just totally forgot about him, havnt listened to him in ages maybe a year or so.

Deluxe, its a good album just was expecting more from it.

He is good in fairness to him, good lyrics and production and he is one of the few newer artists I like atm.

Now Distant Relatives is a ****ing album!! Up there with illmatic in my book!

Wasn't straight hip-hop but an undeniable classic. Maybe I'm just disappointed to hear Nas over non-Marley production!

@conor, it might grow on you more in the future, you never know. Regards to gambino, I liked what I did hear so I must make time for him again !

Distant relatives is class man, agree 100 with you. Wasn't straight hip hop but it was fused with reggae in which arguably hip hop stemmed from. Hip hop and reggae go hand in hand, both are my favourite genres and they compliment each other so well both nas & Marley aswell as the genres.

Like I said to Conor , it might grow on you. Compared to nas previous few solo efforts , I think it's a lot lot better. The only tracks I don't like are summer on smash and accidental murders. Be sure to listen to the bonus tracks too, I think their excellent and worth the few extra quid.

Ayo whattup, whattup. The greatest reviewer of all time, Big Ghost aka The Hands of Zeus aka Volcano Hands aka the mighty powerful Cocaine Biceps also known as Galaxy Knuckles n the illustrious Phantom Raviolis, has finally spoken about the album. And man does he speak. Each track gets about 10 lines, and the total word count comes to 3,764 words. You won't find anything like that anywhere else, nahmean b.

He has such a way with words. It's a joy to read his articles. His description of Nas is bang on the money:
Nowadays ey'body n they moms...they nannies...they kids...n they ****in pets is tryin to rap namsayin. Forreal tho...anybody can rhyme two words together b. That dont make that **** poetical tho...dont get it confused son. Theres niggas that RAP n theres niggas that EMCEE. Theres niggas that spit bars n theres niggas that create poetry...that timeless ****. Word is bond. I dont **** wit all that YO IMMA JUS SAY SOME WILD **** mess but the whole verse aint even poetical like that. Naw...get that amateur **** outta here yo. The boy Nas tho? Ayo pardon that...the LEGENDARY Nasir Jones tho? Not him...you dont address that dude as a "rapper". Callin Nas a "rapper" is like callin Mike Jackson a "singer" or sayin "yeah...durin World War II...niggas wasnt really gettin along" or sayin Jimi Hendrix kinda did his thing on the guitar n ****. **** all that. Son been in the game 21 years n he still challengin mutha****as half his age to come wit some better **** whenever he drops a new joint. And like that...ya boy back. We BEEN waitin nahmean. Son had the streets starvin for damn near half a decade yo.... The **** kinda **** is that Esco? Anyway lets get into this **** g.

I love J. Cole but Big Ghost's continuous putdowns of him are brilliant. I love the way he finishes it with a "no disrespect". No article goes by without him saying something negative about him :P.
Nas BEEN 1/2 man 1/2 amazin.......n Cole jus 1/4 moisturizing cream. Feel me? No disrespect tho.

You can read the article here. Yet again it's well worth the read. You genuinely could see Ghostface saying them exact words. He has him nailed to perfection.

Oh and he gave it 4.5 Zeus slaps outta 5.

    Random comment on youtube:
    Nas=Lyrical genius Rick ross=Fat Bastard :)

I got a good laugh out of it :D But seriously, Rick Ross made a bollocks of that song, his voice is just so hard to listen to, he sounds like he's gargling balls while rapping or something lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,481 ✭✭✭Blisterman

    Loving the Album, amazing production.

Summer on Smash with Swizz Beats sticks out like a sore thumb though. Doesn't match the rest of the album at all. Should have been a bonus track or B side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,970 ✭✭✭mufcboy1999

ross is only on it because of his commercial presence in america atm. I found it funny though in one of the songs on the album (cant remember which one) nas is going on about frauds and fakes in hip hop when he has the single biggest fraud in the industry on the album, officer ricky.:D

I gave the album a full listen, it was alright but it wasnt that memorable, Cherry Wine is song of the year for me though, what a song, probably one of Nas' best songs.

According to Nas interview with Vibe both Eminem and Jay-Z declined to hop on Daughters remix

    http://www.vibe.com/node/97343
There are some very savvy features on this album such as Rick Ross, Anthony Hamilton, and the late Amy Winehouse. Were there any other artists that you wanted to collaborate with that didn’t make it on the album?
One of the only other rappers I thought about was AZ. And I wanted Eminem for a remix for “Daughters,” but he had already expressed that he’s spoken so much about his daughter throughout his career that he had done that subject too much. And me and Jay-Z talked about doing some things, but our schedules were so crazy.

Weak excuse, since when has Em had new subject matter?

I'm loving this album, been playing it daily :)

I made a few changes to the playlist on my iPod; Replaced Summer On Smash with Trust, and The Don with Nasty and The Black Bond, and it's pretty much flawless to me

I still can't believe how good A Queens Story is, Nas shouldn't be making tracks that good so far into his career!

I think that, Loca-Motive, Stay and Bye Baby are my favoruites

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 648 ✭✭✭Plumpynutt

    Bump

I'm a bit late on this, only gave it the first proper listen through last night. I have to say I absolutely love this album. His best since Illmatic by a long shot imo

    My favourite three so far...

not that i know of, i think em has produced a track for nas though, not sure. Long over-due in fairness, actually surprised its never happened but aftermath artists have a tendency imo to stay in house as far as features from other rappers go.
