    TFS (Too f&cking soon).

I personally think Uncle Jimmy's biggest contribution to society has been the... (from Urban Dictionary)

    Saville Horizon

The point of no return in a long tedious meeting when attendee's brains are no longer capable of rational thought, and all meaningful contributions generate into Jimmy Saville impressions

Like an event horizon, once crossed there is nothing you can do to go back.
dave: i know this meeting's dragging on, but we need to come to a decision.

paul: OK, ok, now then - (preparing to make a salient point)

    (gary): now then now then

    (jim): jewellery jewellery

paul: no, look I'm serious. Dave, do you...

(sally): ...like the music of Showaddywaddy?

(gary): OK that's it folks, we're over the Saville Horizon. We're not going to get any further - let's come back to this tomorrow

    (meeting ends)

    Grow up, Richard.

Thread renamed (and sanitized) to talk about peoples' memories of Jimmy.

^ it's a legit topic, about how a show of it's ilk would not get on the air today, people would scream "peadophile", whether it be correct or not.

How is it a legit topic to suggest that Sir Jimmy had tendencies towards kids? The man brought joy to hundreds of children on the TV show, and many many more through his work for charities (raising millions of pounds and donating a large amount of his personal fortune).

To call him a 'creepy old man' is hugely disrespectful and an insult to his legacy.

    To quote Scroobius Pip

"Thou shalt not think that any male over
the age of 30 that plays with a child that
is not their own is a peadophile... Some
    people are just nice."

i was very luckly to have known jimmy in his early years,he was a assistant manager at a manchester dance hall[if my memory is still working OK] it was the ritz,i then often met him drinking in the pubs of salford, with the the likes of lonny donigan[for you kids he was a pop singer ]also frank ifield ,it was the place to drink then,as it was the port of manchester, and was lovingly referred to as the barbary coast.

With his passing will also pass the numerous gagging orders he had on the UK press including specifically the injunction he had on News International mentioning him in connection with Haut de la Garenne.

In fairness, just because somebody looks like a paedo doesn't meant they are one. As there was nothing then to back up the claim one year ago, other than the fact that he looked like one, you were right to defend him.

Seriously, a total fluke that these stories appeared and don't really validate th ops reason for staring the thread rather than "he looked creepy".

It's was still a **** ill timed thread and still is.

It wasn't a fluke, besides looking like a peado...and the fact a program like Jim'll Fix It would *never* get on the air now, creepy perv having children on his lap and touching them, it was rumoured for years he was into kids.

He should have all his awards and OBE/Kinghthoods removed....all the good he did is now mute imo, he used his place in society to molest and rape kids!

He was a fraud, i'll bet money the BBC had heard rumblings and played the deaf ear, it dosen't matter what he did for charities or marathons....it's all been wiped away.

He's now Jimmy Saville....child molester and rapist

If his competing in a marathon helped to fund the completion of a hospital wing, I'm not going to say that's moot. I look at that and admire it as a good thing which, hopefully, is still helping people. I can do that and still deplore what he did, or at least what he was alleged to do. I say "alleged" because I wasn't there at the time.

So many figures of contemporary and historical importance in every kind of field and discipline have been shown to have skeletons in their closet, sometimes more than one. They may have raped someone or killed someone or maybe they sold drugs and profited from the misery of others (can lead to good material for a gangsta rap career) and yet we seem to selectively choose to enjoy the fruits of their labors in public life, forgetting their misdeeds and damn others to hell absolutely as being thoroughly rotten where and when it suits us. To me, that's hypocritical and excuse me if I don't join in on the feeding frenzy which is all too easy where the man is dead but I'll let history be the judge, not ITV, Joe Duffy or the tabloids.

What does a paedo look like? Ok I know there's a stereotype but a paedo could look like anyone else, and someone with the stereotypical look may not be one.

It would be helpful to authorities you have to admit if they all went around in dirty brown macs, had a beard, big glasses and drove a suspicious looking small white van. If they had some sort of uniform like that it would make them a helluva lot easier to spot/arrest/avoid. :pac:

    Lol.

Briany, re your prior post though: I'm not one of the Joe Duffy brigade and I have no problem judging him on the basis of these horrific allegations. His charity work nicely benefitted him too - ensured people would view him as a decent sort. He doesn't strike me as the charitable type in the sincere sense. It was simply handy that he was able to use his celebrity to create a great name for himself. He bloody well owed society plenty anyway considering what he was carrying on with in secret.

What a ridiculous fúcking thing to come out with.

What does a paedophile look like ?

A slightly ageing long haired, grey haired single male presenting a childrens tv show ?

I hope you never get called up for jury service if you judge people simply on their appearance.

The show wasnt about the presenter sitting kids on his knee, so yes, a show like Jim'll fix it would get made today.

I didn't grow up in this programmes time. WHat was the show about?

He does look like a paedo, it's sickening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,623 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Saying someone "looks like a paedo" is idiotic.

Regardless, this thread isn't about TV any more, so I'm locking it. There is a Jimmy Saville thread in AH if you want to continue this discussion.
