A good complaint

So, this is a great complaint to have. My better half has given me €100 to spend on "golf stuff" for Christmas. Now the thing is, it has to be spent on "golf stuff", but i have pretty much everything i need. Its weird that there's always that next thing on your list that you want to get, but i just can't think of anything without starting to duplicate stuff i already have.

    Here's my set

    Driver - R9 10.5 stiff
    3w - R9 15 stiff
    5w - Burner 2.0 TP 18 stiff
    Hybrid - Titleist 909h 18 stiff
    Irons - Burner 2.0 4 - pw regular
    R11 4 - pw stiff
waiting for me under the tree
    Wedges - Vokey 52 & 60 (with a 56 to swap out instead of my 5w)
    Putter - Scotty California

    Sky Caddie SGX
    Powercaddy Freeway
    Taylormade Monaco Cart Bag
    Taylormade Purelite Stand Bag

I was thinking of throwing a few quid with it and getting a new driver, but that great deal for the R11S for €189 is gone in Halpenny and McGuirks. Or i could get an RBZ Tour Hybrid to replace my 909H and sell that on Adverts.ie. Or i could buy the Odyssey metal x #7 putter, but the Scotty cost a fortune, so why replace that. Or perhaps pick up one of the Taylormade ATV wedges Hmmmmm.

Surely there's a random, totally unnecessary golf related item i'm missing?

    Lessons?

Currently going through a series of lessons in Fota, thats probably the best value for my money i'd imagine.

Never thought of putting it aside to pay for more of them.

Go for an upgrade in the shaft of the R9 if it is only the stock shaft you have.
    Shoes.
Round of golf bring a mate no fun playing on your own.
    Loads of Balls and golves.

If you play all year round, you should invest in a pair of Ecco goretex shoes or a new Galvin green jacket, you would be able to play 365 days of the year!

+1 on this. Found the stock shaft pretty poor but maybe that was just me

    GPS/Laser Range Finder?

You might get a slightly older model GPS on ebay for €100.

Thanks for all the hints guys.

Think i will either spend it on continuing my current lessons or upgrading the R9/new driver.

Spoke to the pro giving me lessons and he was mentioning to wait until the new stock is in and we'll do a driver fitting with all the available drivers. He reckons that i wouldn't see a major difference between the R9 and the new drivers so perhaps the shaft is the best option.

With a 100 Euro to spend, I will take some of either too!!

Peter I was suggesting to put the 100e towards Ecco shoes, expensive I know but one of the best investments in golf equipment one can make.

Do you have a link to these online or know of any stockists? Never heard of them but I've been on the look out for a good pair of waterproof golf shoes.

Also, Ecco offers Gore-tex and "Hydromax" waterproof shoes - does anyone know which is better for waterproof purposes?

They are expensive but well worth the money, incredibly comfortable.

Much Cheaper here! http://www.clubhousegolf.co.uk/acatalog/Ecco-Casual-Cool-III-GTX-Golf-Shoe-White-Silver-Brick.html. I have bough ECCO golf shows from them before, always seem to have the lowest price for ECCO at least!!

    cheers

    Cheers, thanks for the link.

Do these stay waterproof, even with frequent use over the winter months?

    GoreTex.
    HydroMax is their own version.

Gore-Tex breathes and lets moisture out, but not in. Most products with Gore-Tex have a guarantee of waterproof performance or your money back/replacement.

There are loads of me-too products that claim to offer the same benefits as Gore-Tex but I have never encountered any that meet the performance.

Gore-Tex is widely used in all kinds of outdoor wear for every sport imaginable and work clothing too. It is not a golf only thing. A Galvin Green top and overtrousers is the bones of 800 quid, lots of the other stuff making big claims is well under a quarter of that price.

    Cheers

Yep, they make shoes with both, but Hydromax is their own material and the shoes are cheaper.
