I don't know how many of you were aware of this case but a mob of Jewish teenagers assaulted a random arab teen Jamal Julani who was walking past in an unprovoked attack back in August. He was actually clinically dead when his heart stopped after a ferocious beating but he was revived by paramedics.Authorities said that it was a miracle that he survived.

This was a really big deal in Israel at the time and was considered a watershed moment in arab israeli/jewish Israeli relations. The police moved quickly and arrested and charged 15 teens and Police commissioner Yohanan Danino told the press that “The lynch in Jerusalem was the most severe and contemptible act imaginable in a democratic law-abiding country”.Prime Minister Netanyahu stated ""In the State of Israel we aren’t willing to tolerate racism and we aren't willing to tolerate the combination of racism and violence"

The Speaker of the Israeli parliament visited Reuven Rivlin paid Jamal a visit to apologise on behalf of the state. Rivlin told him that the assault was evidently not an 'isolated incident of racism towards Arabs, but a worrying phenomenon in Israeli society' and that it was 'a microcosm of a national problem that could endanger Israeli democracy. The Education Minister Gideon Saar, who called the incident "violent" and "racist" instructed Israeli schools to discuss it in classes when the school term recommences.

To be fair to the Israeli government after the horrific event the growing trend of racism in Israeli society appeared to be acknowledged by the Israeli government and some positive actions taken. That was until the police accidently deleted key evidence. Now the efforts of the Israeli state to protect its arab citizens appears incredibly incompetent at best and appears to indicate that jewish teens can seriously assault and clinically kill an arab citizen and will suffer practically no consequences.Very sinister frankly.

Israeli police have reported an accidental loss of key evidence related to the investigation of the August attack on an Arab teenager, which has since become known as “the Jerusalem lynch.”

Dozens of hours of video evidence have been mysteriously erased by the Jerusalem police “with no way to retrieve it”, which may enable the lynch attack suspects to get off lightly in court, Israeli media reports.

Jamal Julani, 17, and his three friends were attacked by a group of Jewish youths in downtown
Jerusalem this August. According to the witnesses, a crowd of youngsters had been singing racist songs and trying to provoke passing Arabs before the attack.

MOD SNIP. DON'T QUOTE ENTIRE ARTICLES

Following the incident, ten suspects were arrested and indicted for their alleged involvement in the lynch attack, most of them aged less than 19, two being females. The suspects were charged for incitement to violence and racially motivated aggravated assault.

Hours of interrogations have been recorded, but most of that material has been lost due to an errant CD burn process. Only the first hour of each videotaped interview ended up on CDs, while the rest was permanently deleted, a Jerusalem police spokesperson later reported. Both the police and the Justice Ministry refused to comment further on the incident.

The defense reacted by calling for “throwing out” the indictments against the suspects as the investigative footage is no longer available
. “The destruction of the investigation materials by the police is another indication of the negligent way the police carried out the investigation for this incident,” Ariel Atari, a lawyer for one of the suspects said, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The victim's family were shocked by the announcement, believing police officers to have purposefully lost the footage. "I think the police want to play a dirty trick to have the evidence disappear in order to drop the whole case," the teen’s father said.

Julani’s mother went on to accuse the Israeli police of encouraging attacks on Arabs. “It’s a message that the police are green lighting attacks on Arabs because ultimately the suspects are released and evidence against them is deleted,” she said, quoted by Ynet news
    .

For all the tl;dr merchants the thread title is self explanatory

Give the hard drive to an independent techie and I'm sure they'll be able to retrieve the 'permanently' deleted files. Short of them having completely re-formatted the hard-drive, an awful lot of what was there previously should be retrievable.

"According to the Jerusalem Post, a 15-year-old boy admitted beating the 17-year-old victim, Jamal Julani, claiming that it was in response to a perceived slight on his mother. “He insulted my mom,” the boy told a magistrate. “So I caught him and beat him. I hit him and I hope he gets it again. I hope he dies. You can’t go by Damascus Gate without getting stabbed. So why do they come here? I beat him and I’d beat him again.”

That Kid's going far in life!

Imagine in Ireland if we responded to every "Yore Ma" joke by beating the other person to within an inch of his life, the population would be significantly smaller!

Just another example of institutional racism in Israel. A farce of a "democracy".

I'm no Israel fan, not really a hater either, but this one is a bit flimsy, a bit like blaming Ireland should some lads in Ballsbridge beat a lad from Newry to death. Teenaged boys do some fcked up stuff, go figure. And people press "delete" by mistake. I know I do.

Let's not blame every single Israeli for the actions of probably one person. Indeed the institutional response was quite commendable.

Israel have to shapen up and start acting like a proper country, Their bullsh1t won't fly forever. Of course dealing with their upper echelon is like dealing with the Mafia, there's no win especially with Big Daddy USA waiting behind the curtain.

I agree. They should totally replace it with a misogynistic and homophobic theocracy akin to the neighbouring countries.

The hypocrisy of these people is disgusting. The idea of a bunch of jewish people beating an arab person to death because they look arab and then gathering in a circle full of hate quite seems quite strange and hypocritical.

I wonder If you told the same jewish people how a bunch of nazis beat some young jewish teenagers to death for being jewish, would they understand the nazi point of view?

What do you want us to do about it, OP?:pac:

The OP wants us to justify terrorist attacks on Israeli citizens whilst highlighting and exaggerating every minor thing Israel does.

All will amount to nothing, of course, because common sense will prevail and the U.S.A. will stand by Israel, thankfully.

    'The police'.

There were corrupt cops in Donegal a few years back ergo the Gardai are corrupt and that's that.

    Stunning use of logic eh?

Irish guys beat a Polish guy to death in Dublin a few years back. Doesn't make every last Irish person a murdering xenophobe.

I think the official reaction to the beating seems commendable. I don't know anything about how the evidence was compromised, but everything else seemed by the book.

The police did destroy the evidence whether inadvertently or deliberately. That is a fact.Either way they not conducting a model investigation of such a serious and high profile attack are they.

We don't know the details. It could have been one bastard of a cop with an opportunity.

Taking one incident that might have been carried out by one person and saying 'look - that's 7.5 million people for ya' is just axe-grinding.

Even if this was the best combination of words found in a post, you're sitting in your jocks (I have my jeans on) AT BEST thanking it.

If it's the worst, you're creating your combination of words to counter it.

    Who wins?
