Big shake up in JD in this area. See that Eamonn Tinney's is gone and Johnstons in Longford have lost the dealership too. Not good if you are a JD owner relying one one of them for service!

They will always do well with any franchise as i believe they are savage dealers. Could never understand John Deeres plan of stripping them of the dealership

Wasn't in a consolidation across Ireland and the UK, minimum turnover in the millions etc?

JD haven't been at the ploughing in years. I don't think there was any great showing of them last year through dealers.

local contractor gone all blue in last 18 months. He claims lot less fuel system problems, and cheaper parts, when needed. Was a Deere head up till then .

Think that will be the fashion for the near future but ive a feeling massey will be back in the picture in a short while, They are pushing hard on the tractor front

Tinney's are not gone but have a creditors meeting sometime in the coming weeks according to this week's IFJ.

Both dealers have lost the JD franchise from 1st or 31st of October.

My strong opinion is that this multi million (25m I believe) strategy will back fire on JD. TFM are not even over that last year with multiple branches and very good service.

JD have lost a lot of the contractors down our way, and it was nothing but JD till 2 or 3 years ago. Our own contractor is selling out the JD and going to MF. But I'd say NH is taking most of the business. He said fuel economy, cost of repairs, and the 20 series engine being troublesome were his reasons. If JD have no dealership close by, they will all change.

Meath Farm machinery have sold a lot of JD's down our side too. There seems to be no territory agreement among dealers. Guess that's what put the pressure on Johnsons.

there are still a huge amount of JD's round here but not that many new ones. i know a good few lads that had massive issues with the seris 20's with gearboxes and engines. the common consenses with teh lads i know with them around here was that the 6610 and 6910's were the best yokes JD made in the last 25 years, and the 6930 is a good yoke too but the 20's were a pile of sh*te. there are still huge numbers of seris 10's working around here. I know a copuple of lads that have kept their 6610's as the 6620 and 6630 were not worth trading up to.

most of the new contractor tractors i see tend to be NH, case and massey and reapperaing again too. there are still plenty of new class's and fendt too from the loacal dealers.

the lad that does a good bit of my cotacting has NH and massey. he wanted JD's as that was what they had at hoem and what he was used to but was priced out of it so went for a NH instead and is delighted with it. got a massey last year as it was cheaper then the equivlant NH or JD and finds it lighter then the NH on juice. was using a 6920 during the summer and reckoned it was using 20% more juice then the massey and 10% more then the NH doing the same jobs.

    Any idea of prices?

6125r with 50k, front and cab suspension, front loader and a good few other "Goodies" is came in just shy of €100k list price. Madness.
    The Loader alone was €9.5k.

A lot to be said for a ould yoke that owes ya nothing.

But in the small chassis 4 cylinder models (JD 5R series) the Massey is €7-8k more than the John Deere 5100R.
