Earrings on Men

So I've been having an on-going arguement with a female co-worker about lads who have both of their ears pierced.

She feels strongly that it's a very 'knackery' thing to have done.

I myself have had both of mine pierced for over 5 years now and have never had anyone else comment on them. (I'm 27 by the way)

    So what do people think?

as a FYI - the ones i wear are small enough black ones

    Hahaha no not a 'carney'!

I work in IT but never wear them to work. Would only be in my free time or when heading out on a night out.

    PM sent.

OP, I have 1 ear pierced but the only lads I've ever seen with 2 earrings that looked stupid were young fellas with a diamond stud in each. Stop that.

i think they're as horrible looking as earings on women.

I would not worry about it OP. People have different tastes and snobbery levels.

    Depends what kind.

    Are they long dangly ones?

    Little gold rings?

    Large gold hoops?

Those horrible ones to open the hole in your ear as large as possible?

    Give us a clue!

Chief Wiggum: Word around here is your game is crooked.
    Homer: And how!
Chief Wiggum: Well, perhaps we can come to an "understanding". [holds out his hand]
    Homer: I understand.
    Bart: Uh, Dad?
Homer: Not now, son. Daddy's talking to the policeman.
Chief Wiggum: Let me put it to you this way. I'm looking for my friend, Bill. Have you seen any Bills around here?
    Homer: No. He's Bart.
Chief Wiggum: Okay, let's try this again and watch as I wink each time. The man I'm really looking for, wink, is Mr Bribe. Wink, wink.
Homer: [pause] ...It's a ring toss game.
Chief Wiggum: All right, That's it, I'm shutting this place down.

Think its an old fashion,I dont get those big holes in the ear wooden ones usually sported with a neck tattoo.
Two earings used to be a sign a fella was gay by him showing the world but think thats no longer the case now.
Personally I would never wear one.

Sometimes you see guys with a few rings in each ear or two massive ones which can also look hot. I'm thinking Blacky O'Connor from Glenroe with earrings. That'd be my cup of tea. Spanish gypsy stylee. Me likey. Like this fella:

I would say it depends on the type of earring, really.

The stupid diamons studs can indeed look a bit... well, ethnic, I suppose.

One or two nice silver earrings however, oh yum! Yes, please :)

jealous of their string of previous convictions more like

nothing says "I've more form than ladbrokes" quite like an ear ring on a bloke

The expression "gets me wet" always makes me shudder. I don't know why I know its a natural physiological process...but it just does. Maybe I yearn for a simpler time....

    Hate earrings, full stop.

Nothing against those who wear them, however.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,963 ✭✭✭Meangadh

I think the only men that I've ever seen that look good with earrings are Johnny Depp and Bruce Springsteen. But that's probably because they're Johnny Depp and Bruce Springsteen.

In real life, like on a night out for example, I wouldn't find a man with earrings appealing at all. Just if we're taking initial attraction I mean. And I'm totally repulsed by those expander earrings things, on men or women. Sick.

    You're jealous of their ruggedness.

In the interests of full disclosure, I did have a silver ring in one ear for years but got rid of it in my late 20s. It looks alright on younger guys.

As a child of the 80s though, I still have nightmares of the proto-traveller look of single fake diamond ear stud and rat-tail haircut combo.

Earrings look alright on men as long as it's not the rings, or anything gold.

pierced mine with a Mr Freeze and a sewing needle which was the style at the time

Yeah, it's a bit crude alright but I was trying to convey the level of attractiveness for me. Seeing a silver hooped earring on a guy would be the equivalent of a lady revealing her "Devil's Dumplings" (too crude?) in a low-cut top. No idea why.

"It gets me weak at the knees" then. That better?

I misread that as a knitting needle initially :)

Did you ever ask a wearer to take theirs off and give it a sniff? You'll never smell anything so bad in your life as that pong.

Never had my ear pierced, had the eyebrow pierced for a couple of years 15 - 17 though. Haha if I was to get it pierced I'd wear one of those dangly feather ones like Corey Haim in "Lost Boys"!

If you had your left ear pierced you were hard.

If you had your right ear pierced you were gay.

    FACT. circa 1982.

I coach a kids football team, we get all the flashy youngfellas, mullets, pink football boots, earrings, you name it. Some of them even wear odd boots (different brand on either foot)

The other coach, and myself, decided that anyone with both ears pierced (there's 3) has to train harder to get in the team. They haven't figured out yet why they're the ones being singled out!

As long as its not a massive fake diamond that could sink a ship it's grand. Or hoops. Those things are just dangerous.

I have one earring on my left ear and one earring through my tunnel on the same ear.

Women with heaps of earrings on both ears are hot.

Ah that's mank. I'm hyper sensitive to the cheese pong because I'm always paranoid mine smell.

Had my left one pierced with a small silver ring years ago. Have two piercings in my ear but the they aren't earrings!

I don't really like the look of having an earring in each though!

He used to take it off and stick it up near my nostrils as revenge when we were drunk. We were both smelly students back then though.

Genuine question: What happens if you regret stretching the hole in your earlobes? Like tattoos can be removed but what happens if you want to reverse the stretching?

FFS! Properly heaved there. I can't handle even the thoughts of that :(

Earrings are knackery on men IMHO, both ears pierced even knackerier. As for one ear pierced with a faux diamond from some cheap jewellery shop, that's off the knacker Richter scale.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,734 ✭✭✭J_E

I think at times, a single earring looks really nice. Not really my thing overall, but it suits some people.

Up to a certain size they'll shrink back over time, over a certain size and it's most likely lobe reconstruction.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,045 ✭✭✭✭gramar

Earrings on men like fine with a casual look but a well-dressed man say with a suit on and an earring just looks odd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

Had the lobe of my left ear peirced as a teenager around the age of 17/18. Only lasted about a month or two as never gave it a chance to heal due to taking it out for a couple of interviews.

Have thought and spoke about getting my helix periced for the last couple of years, although fear now I'm too old to be getting stuff periced, and how it would be viewed on me.
