Getting out of Eircom contract

    Hi guys,

I recently joined Eircom broadband as my area doesn't get UPC or any other service providers. I won't get into the details as I know Eircom monitor this and I'd prefer to talk to them directly, but I'm basically very frustrated by their customer care service which lead to a two month delay on my broadband.

Now that the line is open and all the rest is fine I find out that one of the other tenents told me that another provider is now available in the area and that he was getting us a good deal. We want to get out of the Eircom contract which was set up in March.. is this possible? I never signed anything but they have my DD details.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    R

I'd say if you post in the Eircom forum then you'd get a better response.

Hope you get your issue sorted regardless.

No way out of it. If you don't pay they will simply come after you legally.

No they won't. You agreed to a contract either written, verbal or online. You can of course pay a fee (which I believe is your contact price for the remaining time left on said) If you signed up for 12 months - then it's say 50 x 10 which would be 500. You are stuck with them till your contract expires they WILL sue you if you don't pay make no mistake

LOl. I think you need to calm yourself down, retrogamefan.. This is a small, residential contract - I'm not committing major fraud or killing someone - I'm unhappy with the service and customer care is WELL below sub-par. I'll enquire about the cancellation fee and I'll sort it.

I'm perfectly calm... I'm giving you facts... I've read here about someone who was taken to court by eircom for not paying a cancellation fee (albeit it was unknown to them they HAD to) but you asked a question, I answered you. I don't understand how I was being un calm, in anyway. I gave you the facts

I've gotten out of contracts like this before.. It's fairly straight forward and I was just enquiring to see what other people have experienced with eircom contracts. I don't think Eircom would spend the thousands of euro on legal proceedings to get a few hundred quid off a student.

Small claims doesn't cost thousands.. Well I'm telling you they'll make you pay, and if you don't they'll acquire it legally

Could be wrong but I'm nearly sure a business can't take an individual to the small claims court.

Just got off the phone with eircom... Ironically it was the best customer care service I've gotten. There might be a cancellation fee but it will hopefully be waived as I've had so many problems with my account. The cancellation fee is 150euro I think.. no big deal.

You are wrong.. And the whole business won't.. The debt collection side will

Well in fairness, you were wrong too.. You have come across as very sure of everything in this whole thread. You told me I'd have to pay for the duration of my contract! Wrong.. Sorry to point it out, but maybe you need to readjust your tone.
