just using your quote as a an example...

How come everyone professes to know what actually happened?
I've read all I can find and it appears to be very sketchy, brief and only one witness's statement?
If assault is suspected , wouldn't a file go to the DPP and then a decision made for formal charges down the road? Wouldn't that be followed by a court where the incident would be judged?
Isn't that how it works in a democracy?

Good point in fairness! I was a bit presumptuous

The left wing in this country are sickening. They honestly feel that abuse and violence is OK just because their lives are ****.

The far left politicians are encouraging the latest incidents too. Their ground support are encouraged to go out and confront FG/Lab politicians and troll social network sites

The worst of it I've seen from that Says No group, although I'm not sure if I'd describe them as left-wing as such. They have more in common with a proto-fascist group - they exist to abuse people who have beliefs other than theirs.

Remember that Labour candidate the other week who got abused and ran off an estate? That was their work. Would not surprise me a jot if this was their work too, it would certaintly be in their character.

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/fg-councillor-hit-in-face-while-out-canvassing-30261769.html

well they can't say they weren't warned!!

A Fine Gael councillor was assaulted while out canvassing.

Cllr Humphrey Deegan, inset, was canvassing for party colleague John O'Sullivan in Clonakility, west Cork, when the incident happened.

Mr Deegan said canvassers were calling at houses on Connolly Street when a man launched obscenities and then hit him in the face.

"The level of abuse thrown at me was appalling. He was calling me a blue-shirt bastard and a liar," said Mr Deegan, who will report it to gardai.

It's really a pretty awful reflection upon you if you view it to be okay to assault a person on the street for their political affiliation. It's deplorable behaviour which is of zero benefit to evolving our political system.

Would you beat him up too big man? Like the scumbag in this situation did?

Seeing as every single person involved in politics is "scum of the earth" according to you

You do not know that the "scumbag" beat him up, its all supposition and it appears that the boot may be on the other foot and that it is the councillor that could be charged with assault.

So who is the scumbag Ugo, the man on the street or the politician?

We don't know yet. Although we do know that it wasn't the political ;)

Democracy my arse, don't delude yourself. This is the country that had to rerun a European referendum because our Government and their EU masters, didn't like the result the first time around.

Its funny how ordinary people are tagged as scumbags and politicians are not spoken of in this manner.
Also certain people on here who appear to have a particular political affiliation serm to be promoting this "assaulted councillor" as the injured party when it also seems likrly that he was not so blameless and also may be the agressor.

I know that second referendum when we were told we couldn't vote no again and they pointed guns at us threatening us to make our mark in the correct box. Darn fascist state.

If only they could have gone off and secured a better deal and then come back to us and asked us to vote on the revised version.... Oh wait

Not so long since a FG councillor was accused of assaulting a pensioner, another FG councillor of assaulting his former boss. Back then I remember thinking there is more to these stories than meets the eye and it never occurred to me to post comments because I had not got the facts.
And there was more to both cases.
Destroying the character of someone you know nothing about without a shred of evidence - is that the kind of thing FG and its supporters do?

Having said that, I am not advocating/condoning reactionary violence, better to engage them on an intelligent level via the democratic process.

Aye but... Fook 'im. I'm surprised this has been a first tbh.

    Assault is assault. Deplorable behaviour.

Now, OP do me a favour and state what lies he was telling. Don't just drop a link to YouTube or an article? Write out what the lies you maintain he told are. Have you the courage of your convictions to drop the internet warrior image for a few minutes and take responsibility for your actions - go on publish the lies by your own hand? First hand, your responsibility!

he was canvassing therefore he was lying to get the vote. I couldn't be any simpler than that
No, your whole thing is about this supposed revolution that you constantly bleat on about (multiple threads started). Yet you don't have a notion of what would actually happen after it

You're saying you don't approve of what this scumbag did but you're revelling in his actions all the same. Which is just as disgusting

    Get off the soapbox

It's people like you that give real liberals a bad name. You haven't a bulls notion

Also, how in gods name do you know he was telling lies? You don't know. He could have been, but you weren't there so maybe don't lie yourself

    see above

This is a democracy - how dare you advocate bringing violence and intimidation into it.

You do a lot of whinging about "the system" renegademaster, and the fact that nobody shows up at your protests (I'm beginning to see why, if this is your attitude) - why don't you have the balls to run yourself and try to change something if you're so inclined, instead of engaging in this sort of nonsense.

Hitting a councillor trying to get on with their business - yeah, that'll change things alright

please point it out to me where I advocated violence
    I don't believe you.

sure there's no way i could possibly prove it so whatever

where did i say it's ok to assault "a person on the street for their politicial affiliation" or it's ok assault anybody, for that matter.

Sorry councillor but we all have to take our share of cuts, we're all in this together, remember?

He got in a fight and lost. Don't agree with the person knocking his leaflets out of his hands, but after that the canvasser 'tried to restrain him against the car' which means he put his hands on him and pushed him against the car and escalated the situatuon when he should have walked away.

So all politicians from all parties and also the independents are all liars because they canvass for votes?

The part where you said " he was canvassing, there for he was lying for votes"?

Why are you reveling in an incident of violence against a local candidate?

    "It's nice to meet you"?

How would you know that was a lie? Maybe it was nice for him to meet people. Op is saying he was lying because the "whole FG manifesto is a lie" but cannot mention a single party who has ever got into power and then followed through on EVERY single pre election promise.

I think it's more reminiscent of Eric Cantona's kung fu kick incident. In that a member of the crowd thinking they were immune thought they could safely act aggressively and the hard man without fear of comeback. Then shocked to find someone break the rules....and they weren't so safe anymore. So then the hard man went off crying to tell the teacher (garda station)
