Producing driver's licence at a Garda station - what actually happens?

Have to produce licence at Local Garda station and I'm just wondering what happens. Do I just go in and they log it in a book or what happens?

The station I'm bringing it to is about 70km from where I was stopped so I'm presuming that they don't ring the Garda to tell him that I'm there?

    Anyone any idea what happens?

It's logged in a system. With such a distance for you to travel, triple-check the opening times of the station before making the journey.

Depends on what you told the gardai when he/she asked what type of licence do you hold;)

I wasn't asked, I was caught speeding and didn't have licence with me. I was given 10 days to produce so now I'm wondering if when I produce it the Garda will know I was driving unaccompanied and I'll get into more trouble.

Bring everything with you. Tax, Insurance, Nct and learners permit. Even if they didn't ask.

Well you have to go give your details so don't dwell on it. Get it done and see how it goes there. We can't help you. And you shouldn't post any details up here. Go as soon as you can.

Don't know how it works but it's mostly automated. If you don't produce within 10 days then a fine is automatically issued. Not sure how it'll work when you produce a permit, as the Garda never twigged you weren't accompanied.

Just make sure that you get a receipt from PULSE when you produce

This is very important, otherwise you could receive a summons at some point in the future.

There may be a fine for driving unaccompanied and not displaying L plates. Could be points too, I'm not sure.

No need to obey the law outside the Garda station, that's the last place they'll look.

This is Ireland, where once half if the driving population didn't have a test, because ah shure, tis grand.
Now things have changed, when we issue a learner permit, it is only so you can learn to drive, not go on 200 km business trips on the motorway, but if you get caught, ah shure, tis grand. Makes you despare. along with the general attitude in other threads along the lines of "a driving licence doesnt really mean anything".
So go out there and drive, whatever paper you may hold or not hold, ah shure, tis grand.

Nothing will happen they just are checking that you have a valid licence.

He does too a certain degree.

The type of license presented will be recorded, so the guard can follow up on this.

The OP is not off the hook yet;)
