Hi I need some help regarding obtaining an Irish Visa and work permit for my Filipino boyfriend. Or even if it is at all possible.

He has a Bsc in Hotel and Restaurant Management which is the industry he would like to work in here in Ireland. We visited the DJEI website and noted that this area is deemed an "ineligible category of employment"

I rang the offices and to be honest the man I spoke with wasn't that helpful as he told me he could not advise what type of permit to apply for. He went on to tell me that first of all we need to check what type of stamp would be granted for him before applying for a work permit. Am I right in saying that this stamp is given on entering the country?

Should we be applying for a visa to live in the country and then apply for the work permit or should a job be secured before moving over?

Or should we just scrap living in Ireland altogether and go somewhere else?

A "feature" of EU employment law is that EU Citizens can live/work in ANY EU country and have a right for their spouse/partner to live with them.

So in Theory, you and your "partner" could exercise your EU rights to work/live anyway in the EU, except Ireland.

I know one or two Irish Citizens whom are married to Filipinos, and have trouble to get permission for them to come to Ireland.

We're not married so we probably would not fall into this category.

So your friends are actually married and are still having trouble? This doesn't seem very reassuring for me :/

Probably better off ringing Immigration for the area you intend to live in to get better advice.

You might, google "De Facto Partnership"

It won't be easy, but keep trying, it can/will work in the end.
