Hi guys, I am looking at buying a 09 5470 with the Dyna4 transmisson. Was just wondering if these are a good tractor and if they give much problems with regards mostly to the engine and gearbox? Also these models seem to be that bit more expensive then say the 5465 with the Perkins engine. Are they worth the extra money?

I don't no if there worth more or which is best.is the 5465 possible a 6cyl.
but we had one anyway for 4 completely trouble free years only to trade it in for a 6470dyna 6. Can say nothing bad.somebody always gets unlucky with any model.but I never regretted or cursed mine.and a good puller I thought for its size.

The dyna 4 are supposed to be far superior to the dyna 6 and more reliable so you should be safe there. I think the 6 cylinder is the sisu engine ain't it. If so you should be safe enough there too

Thanks lads. No the 5740 has a four cylinder sisu engine the 5465 has a six cylinder Perkins. The 5470 seems like a lovely tractor for a loader which I will want to put on it. Bit shorter then the six cylinder but with the same power

Yeah she's a good all round machine as far as I'm led to believe. Grand loader machine

Is it much shorter? We have a 5480 here, 4cyl, same length as our 6cyl 6260..

Not much only 6 or 7 inches i thought it was more but then the 5470 is 15hp more then the 5465. Not sure about this but the steering lock is meant to be much better on them too the six cylinder models are not supposed to have a great lock or at least that what I've been told!

How do you find the 5480 any problems?

No problems so far. She's a 131, just used for ploughing, rotavating, sowing corn with the one pass and trailer work at tge spuds and grain. I like it, cab suspension is great on the road. Open center hydraulics are so fast 115l/m I think. And they have a different cluch switch in them, which is good as thats the only issues we've had with our 5455s.

That the switch that wouldn't allow it to start if the clutch was out of alignment

It's the switch that sticks if your going in the one gear for ages, say rotavating.

Does the clutch switch tend to be fault on them? Easy enough fix though i would imagine is it? Do they tend to give any other electrical problems or are they solid enough?

That was the 5455 that the uncle has. It's just won't start and you have to get the clutch realigned. Easy fix but annoying all the same. Only happened once tho and its a 05

I don't know if the same system is in a 5470. If its tge same as a 5480 it'll be grand. No nothing out of the ordinary, few fuses, thats down to wet control boxes though. Good tractors.

I have 5470 with loader- have it couple years now. Really excellent tractor, serious power for its size and no reliability problems. Would have no hesitation in buying another one. Also real easy on diesel which is good job.

Thanks for the advice lads its a toss up now between the massey or the new holland t6050. The Massey is just ahead though i think i love the way you can change the gears on the shuttle i think it would come in really handy for loader work.

Have a look at the 5612 with a loader on her. The loader joystick has shuttle in it,clutch button and all gears

Yeah I know a few boys with that gearbox and a loader, they love it.

Are they not a new model in the last couple of years if so they would be a bit new for me!! Money rules I'm afraid!

Hello again lads, got talking to the Massey dealer again today and asked him about the 5612 just for the sake of it. Turns out there not bad value and he nearly had me talked into buying one before i left the place. There was just a couple of things i am wondering about 1is how would she handle with something like a 2500 gallon tanker at 120 horses she should be okay for power but would it push her around much? Also i feed a lot of baled silage here and what would it be like with a heavy bale on the front would it be heavy enough on the back end to handle it well or would you end up having to put a weight on it i wonder? They are a nice tractor and there's a lovely multi control loader joystick in them be very handy. any advice would be very much appreciated!

    I have the 5610. 105hp
Can not fault it. Pull 17 bales and wouldn't bat an eyelid at it. Well able for heavy bales but like all loader tractors don't be foolish with them like turning hard at speed they WILL lift.
Mine was on a 1600gal tanker and not a bit of bother to it. She would happily take a 2k gallon tanker

Thanks greengrass, think i might have to take the plunge! Should be a hell of a lot better then the ole 7610 anyway. She's been a loyal servant for the last 10 years but starting to get afraid she might let me down one of these days though. Bit of a coincidence was up in the dealers today and they where running through the loader with me. The mechanic was having a right old laugh about how some lad had been messing with the automatic locking on it and got his finger stuck ripped a right lot of skin off he was saying. Was just reading back though some of your old posts there when i got home...hardly yourself was it?

Could be but I didn't tell anyone in my dealers about it. Where was dealer based? I wouldn't mind the 5612 tbh there nicer again vs my 5610 bit bulkier

In Wexford. Ya there lovely alright he would be going to put the wider tyres on her for me aswell as part of the deal so should be a good machine. We put a nearly 2 tonne weight on the loader just to see what she would be like. I was suprised at how well it handled you feel it in the back but by no means was it bad. Looked at a couple of new Hollands and a case nice tractors but for loader the Massey seems to be miles in front.

most dealers willing to give demos now, why not try your dealer for a demo for a few days?

+1 we bought the tractor we had on demo. Got a couple of K of as a result

Ya might be able to get a demo for a couple of days at the end of the week. He priced me the new one first then the demo then came way back on the price for the new one as he said he didn't want to put another new one out on demo. Typical salesman stuff but there wasn't much in
the difference in the end or that's what he led me to believe anyway, probably playing me for a sucker!

Who were you dealing with? D? we always got on very well with D. It was a huge amount off the demo as there was just over 100 hrs on her but still makes a difference.
Like my father dmsaud and what the lads here say its the amount you pay per month that matters
