    Hi all,

My friend told me the cost to fit a new tyre is about 10 Euro plus balance.

Called one shop told need 40 Euro for run flat tyre (2 in front) as run flat are much hard to fit compare normal tyre, it that true?

Car – MINI cooper (2011) – got my two new trye on internet, just need to fit .

    Thanks

Generally the sidewalls on the run flats are a lot thicker so require a bit more effort to take off and refit, it would be kinda normal for to be charged maybe 5er extra per corner to replace, ring around though - you'll probably get cheaper for the sake of a phone call.

thanks, so 30 Euro is a reasonable price for both?

    Very

They need a different type of tyre machine to put on, with a rotating arm and rubber disc due to the stiff sidewall

Depends on where you go, but 30 would be a good price on it for two, 15 a corner is very reasonable, I really don't think you'll get cheaper then that.

Very reasonable price for fitting and balancing per tyre, considering the extra work and different machine to fit the tyre. €20 per tyre isn't bad either

Can U say where you got the run flat tyres I am thinking to convert my car to them . Then I could ditch the spare wheel .
Its possibly a cheaper option than to buy bigger car to carry more stuff in car if I can get them at good price but no luck so far all were stupid prices .
If possible if it is Dublin say who fitted them for you at what price I need four of them

Run flats have a stronger side wall as mentioned above. I've been In a few garages that their machine can't actually fit a RFT. So the garages have to invest in the machine in the first place.

You cannot just convert to RFT. The wheels involved have an inner lip to stop the tyre from collapsing in on itself.

    +1

You cannot fit run flat tyres onto rims not designed for run flat tyres, but you can fit standard tyres onto rims that were designed for run flat tyres.

OK so I got to buy 4 wheels in steel if available or most likley only comes in alloy and then the tires . I am no fan of alloy clip a curb and they braek apart unlike steel which might buckle but often let you still get home . Then later you can get most steel wheels fixxed to go again .

I got most of burst types from clipping curbs or hitting large pot holes which just appeared too late to not hit them

Where is the cheapest source for them either ROI or NI or UK or further afeild.

This isn't true, the only difference is in the make up of the tyre not the rim itself, all the rims are the same. What you should note though is that you will need to probably buy a tyre pressure monitoring system so you know when you have a puncure in the run flat. Where you might get a problem also is in the suspension of the car as the run flats have a much harder sidewall so you suspension might not agree with them.

So does this mean I can get my normal steel wheels to do the runflats

Run-flats are not a cost saving idea. They're very expensive and are often unrepairable when punctured. Have only had them 3 months and have already had to replace one due to a puncture at a cost of €240.

Also your car needs a tyre pressure detection system with run flats so you know if you have a puncture and reduce speed to <80kmh

I'd agree with Bigcheeze there are far from been a perfect replacement for normal tyres. A spare wheel in the boot is a much better idea.

@Derry yes you can put them straight on to steel wheels but like I said above stick to your spare wheel. Where I work we've fitted loads of spare wheel kits to BMWs and the owners have reverted back to ordinary tyres.
