The E39 like the E46 is. Unbelievably dated looking imo. The E60 still looks very fresh, but the '39 I think was dated by 2006-2007... It still looks like a late 90's car!0 -

Having had a pre facelift E39 as a daily once it didn't age well at all. A very good looking car otherwise in a sea of blandboxes0 -

I think the term "a car that's aged well" is a car that would surprise you at it's age by still looking respectably modern despite being uninsurable with allianz or aviva.
I think the OP is spot on in that his 2003 A3 is a car that at a glance i could mistake for being a car a decade younger than it is.
Some of the suggestions are gas, the e39, saab 900, pug 406 coupe etc, while all being reasonably good looking cars are all showing their age rather obviously as automotive "style" has come quite a long way since their day. These thread usually get quickly mis-interpreted as a "what do you think is a good looking car" thread and miss the point entirely.
A car that's aged well? E14 corolla, heading for a decade on the go, it's not the prettiest or the most interesting but even the oldedt incarnations look fresh enough so it's aged well imo.
The mk5 golf is another. Still percieved as a very fresh car but it's out 12 years this year. Come to think of it, a lot of the VAG range has aged quite well.
The mk2 focus is clinging on well too...
It came out in 2004, the same year as the nissan tiida and pug 407 which are getting fairly knackered looking, for example. The e60 is also from 04 and unlike the e39, still looks "modern".0 -

Think you are spot on, I was more so referring to cars that still look modern and could be mistaken for being a more recent design than they actually are.
But its an interesting subject and enjoying the thread so far 0 -

Maybe if you done a bit of reading, you'd understand what "aged well" means?
Look at Jennifer Aniston and Sarah Jessica Parker... only 3 years between them, Aniston looks in her 30's, Parker looks mauldy. Aniston aged well, Parker didn't, she looks her age.
The e39, 406 coupe yada yada look their age. They look good but they look their age.
The e14 corolla doesn't look 8 years old and the mk5 golf certainly doesn't look 12. The e39, despite a good facelift is visually clearly mid 90's.0 -

I think the 159 has aged amazingly well, especially the Estate, a 10 year old design now.

Still a stunning looking car 19 years after it was launched. Even that facelift one there was launched 12 years ago now. Having in vogue 18" wheels and being white makes it look almost new imho. Everything else from that era now looks like it was designed in the 90s, that doesn't.0 -
