Picture taken of my licence plate?

So Yesterday evening I was at a t-junction waiting to turn left, there were 2 buses coming both turning right so not seeing any cars behind the buses I pulled out. I hear a horn and see theres a car behind me. I presume they were overtaking the second bus or were right behind it as I did not see them. No harm done, the lady in the car behind me probably got a fright but nobody was hurt , there was no accident.

So I continue driving along and stop at a red light. I look in my rear view mirror and see the lady has her phone out and is taking pictures or a video of my car. I know she was definitely not just on her phone as she was leaning over her steering wheel to get my license plate. We made eye contact and she pointedly continued to video/take pictures of my car. The light turned green and I drove on.

So I'm guessing she wants to report me for pulling out in front of her. I'm just wondering what happens if she does? Do I get a call from the garda or pulled over next time they see my car? Does it count as careless/dangerous driving? I mean I honestly just 100% didnt see her car i just saw an empty road besides two buses which were turning onto my junction. Maybe a car or two a fair bit behind. Leaving me a enough space to pull out.

Wouldn't it be your word against hers if she only pulled out her phone after the event.
I would deny any wrong doing if you are contacted by the guards. People make mistakes, others overreact.

Your licence plate? Surely you mean your number plate, any way I wouldn't take much notice of her.

was it the driver using the phone while driving? if so i doubt they would report anything unless its themselves

Isn't it illegal to use your mobile when in your car, even if stopped in traffic?? She could be opening herself up to prosecution if she reports it using the footage. On the other hand, she may be planning to upload it onto social media!

I had that one time, pulled across a lane probably a little late to get the exit but nothing significant and I say a lady taking photos etc. it spooked me a bit at the time as I didn't know what it was about bu never heard an more of it. Its doubtful that you will hear anything about it.

Let her take it to the Garda. She may get done for holding a mobile phone while behind the wheel of the car.

    I bet you're a laugh at parties.

In regard to the OP, wouldn't worry about it. Hard to tell from your description, but try an extra look before you pull out next time.

So this woman was videoing while driving on her phone ? She's breaking the law more than you are. 2 wrongs don't make a right. Right, you may have pulled out in front of her but that doesn't give her any special leeway. She'd want to be fair silly to be going to the Gardai with evidence of her using her phone while driving. She whipped it out after the incident, so does't actually have footage of the incident? Yeah, let her report away.

ETA: If the garda show up, you have the excuse and evidence, she was distracted by her phone and not watching the road.

She was stopped at a traffic light when she took out her phone not actually driving but yeah no footage of what happened.
I was just worried. I saw a few other threads and there were talks of dangerous, reckless driving , fines, court etc and I wasnt sure if this counted or not.

The only person in trouble is the driver holding the phone. It doesn't matter that she was stopped at traffic lights.

Forget about it, she was only trying to spook you.

It was careless driving by pulling out onto a road you weren't sure was clear and hopefully you'll learn a lesson. But the other driver has committed an offence by holding their phone while driving.

Don't worry about it'll be your word against the other driver if they are even willing to go to court over it and they have proof that they committed an offence by using their phone.

No accident occurred, she started filming after the incident and she was using her mobile phone without driving. I'd be shocked if you heard anything about this again. Probably a b1tch who was having a crappy day but if she actually did report you then she is a right back of misery.

Unless she has a video of her doing something illegal its just her trying to spook you, she might as well be taking random pictures/videos of a car sitting in traffic. Even if she did have a video of you pulling out nothing happened so I'd say at most if the Gardai followed up they'd just mentioned it to you.

    The original definition of driving

    driving” includes managing and controlling and, in relation to a bicycle or tricycle, riding, and “driver” and other cognate words shall be construed accordingly;

You don't stop being a driver or driving just because you are stopped in traffic.

We're the buses turning left or right? It's hard to tell which direction the woman came from. Did she come from the right? She must have been moving along nicely if she managed to get by the two buses and up the chuff of the op by the time he made it around the corner. I have two cases recently of angry female drivers gesticulating despite the fact they were in the wrong (one of them coming the wrong way in a one way!!)

Not female driver bashing btw. Just recent experience!
