Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just went to check on my order. Cancelled. No reason. Can't reorder, it fails, no reason. I'm just giving up at this point. That website never works for me.

That happened to me, I used Chromium and got an email saying the order was succesful on Friday. I have an order number, but when I try to check it, I get this error:

I take it the pixel 4a 4g is no longer on sale @€;180, I see no option to add code when checking out.

It is not really confirmed so I have to ask.

    No voucher, it's 279 whereas the 4a 5g is 329

Worth it? I think not. That the best price around for this phone. Was lucky to get one for 170 for family, now looking for another one but don't really mind paying 279

I don't think it's worth it at 279 when the 4a 5g is 329, is a much better phone, bigger screen, faster CPU, bigger battery, better camera. I liked the 4a, it's a very decent miss range phone but found it much too small

Pixel 4a is the perfect size imo

Have the 4a over a month now, got it eventually throught the €179 Vodafone offer despite a lot of hassle getting the tranaction sorted.

Must say its been brilliant for the price, not much i'm not happy with. I'd never had a smartphone outside of iPhone's so my biggest worry was switching to android. After 2 or 3 days was well used to it. Best move i ever made instead of forking out €450 for the cheapest iPhone that was available sim free

Biggest change for me is battery life. Its only now i fully realise how shocking the iPhone battery life is, i knew no better for last 10 years
Its a pleasure now not to worry about battery shooting down and going dead in middle of day

On the experience so far i can easily see myself sticking with a Google phone as my next purchase

The Android 12 beta is quite good on the 4a, really enjoying the new interface from Google.

Agreed but the current iteration is very glitchy. For example if you use a PIN to unlock your screen the keypad does not stay visible once you take your finger off.

That could be annoying definitely. I'm having some Bluetooth connectivity issues, but it's possible it's the speaker and not the phone as it works in the car fine. The beta isn't without bugs, as expected. Looking forward to further iterations.

Is there still the deal of €100 off if switching to Vodafone. Could get a free sim and swap if there phone is unlocked.

No, and you didn't need to port numbers when it was available.

That's surprising, the battery life is the thing I'm least impressed with the 4a.

Yeah but you're not comparing it to an iPhone. :)

Is this the best phone to get at the moment in this price range?

Edit: Just saw that it's now at €279, any reccommendations for a sub €200 phone?

Ordered the Pixel 4a 5g yesterday and get error when try and track, no stock in ANY shop so had to go delivery and didnt setup an account

I wont hold my breath after some horror stories here (even have bookmarked a case to be ordered if when it comes)

What does the 5G aspect of the 4a 5G mean?
Like what if there is no 5G around where you live or does most places have it now?
Is it just like a 5G compatible phone?

Yep, it means it can connect to 5G when available.
But if you are looking at that as a decision maker, the phone itself is closer to the Google Pixel 5(XL) than it is to the 4A.
It has the 5 camera and cpu.
I am pretty sure the 5 custom roms (if you wanted to go that route) can be installed on the 4A 5G too, albeit with some minor bugs.

Phone came this morning (just left in the porch, no ring bell and wait nothing)

Trying to find a case now, most seem to be sold out an not paying nearly E50 to google

Amazon less than a tenner with a glass protector

I looked and looked and ended up a Spigen Liquid Air , great reviews on it (gomobio only place in stick so hopefully none of the issues others had) none in stock and amazon want like E7 import on stuff now

Never had success putting on or having a screen protector, always got bubbles etc

If always getting bubbles, then chances are you are not buying a good screen protector. It would be very unlikely to actually protect anything.
A good screen protector will be for example, tempered glass, 9H hardness, not bendable and will not bubble (large bubbles when applying are easily smoothed out)

I was thinking of getting the 4a 5g as it's a good price from Vodafone at the minute. I was asking their customer service a few questions and they said the phone is carrier locked. Also they say it has a Vodafone splash screen on startup and some Vodafone branding on the back. I'm reading here that the pixel devices come unlocked. Unsure what to think, can anyone confirm if they are branded or not?

That is absolute nonsense. I guess reps will always waffle on as if they know more that you do!
It's not locked or branded. I'm using one on Gomo!

It's a great phone, I'm loving it. I first got the 4a for 179 but found it too small so changed to this when it dropped to 329. It's a nice upgrade on the 4a, has bigger screen, better camera, bigger battery, faster CPU. It should be compared to the pixel 5 as it shares most hardware with the 5, not sure why they named it 4a. It also gets updates a year longer than the 4a as it's this year's phone

That came up top in a lot of reviews, that's the only type of cases I've ever used

They have a Amazon shop, but was out of stock and they charge postage and import or that so think nearly doubled the cost

I bought a Spigen tough armor for my pixel 4a. Fantastic case, if you want the best protection. The other Spigen cases are great too if you want something slimmer. I had to get mine from Amazon.es as the UK Amazon wouldn't deliver to Ireland. Linky

Spigen are great, a million times better than the ones you'll find in the local dodgy phone shop which tend to fall apart after a few months exposure to Irish weather.

AliExpress etc resold for about twenty times the price to people not in the know (most fresh from phone shop and need case ASAP)

At least if you ordered them yourself you'd get about 3 cases (different colour or backup) and have change

I never had much issues (most of the time ones with click on colour parts broke off it had to cut holes for speakers) but I said for what I'm paying (plus saving) I'll go with a good case (shame I've a phone in the box a week as won't use without case)

Anyone here gone from a 90/120hz screen back to a 60hz?

I'm really considering getting the 4a 5G, my Oneplus 7T has been pretty buggy since upgrading to android 11

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,848 ✭✭✭jeffk

Can anyone recommend a USB C plug for this?

I have USB C to USB C cable's that give me fast charging with car charger so know they work

Asked on Reddit and only got Amazon as option and i don't have prime so be almost the same price of a plug to post it

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,676 ✭✭✭mondeo

I wouldn't do it, it's abit of a downgrade compared to your 7T. Unless your 7T is just simply broken and you need to buy another phone straight of way. The camera performance is exaggerated on these, the lenses are nothing special. Most decent mid range phones can give you same or better image quality, Galaxy A52 for example is the same price with a great 123 degree wide angle lense.

Does anybody have any information on the WiFi calling on the 4a. I'd find this reall useful as the reception is not great in my house on any network

    • The Vodafone page is slightly unclear link . From searching I think this phone has it, can anyone confirm
    • On Vodafone anyway it is only availble on particular plans. Am getting a call back to see what's the best price plan they can offer.
    • As this is unlocked anyone know who'd offer the most competetive WiFi calling plan?

Hi..have you received your phone? Is is carrier unlocked? n we can simply discard the sim that come along with the phone?
